From Amazon.co.uk

Aliens is one of the few cases of a sequel that far surpassed the original. Sigourney Weaver returns as Ripley, who awakens on Earth only to discover that she has been hibernating in space so long that everyone she knows is dead. Then she is talked into travelling (along with a squad of Marines) to a planet under assault by the same aliens that nearly killed her. Once she gets there, she finds a lost little girl who triggers her maternal instincts--and she discovers that the company has once again double-crossed her, in hopes of capturing one of the aliens to study as a military weapon. Directed and written by James Cameron, this is one of the most intensely exciting (not to mention intensely frightening) action films ever, with a large ensemble cast that includes Bill Paxton, Lance Henriksen, Paul Reiser, and Michael Biehn. Weaver defined the action woman in this film and walked away with an Oscar nomination for her trouble. --Marshall Fine --This text refers to the DVD edition.

The gung-ho action movie 'Aliens' was made in 1986 and is regarded in some erudite circles as inferior to its cerebral, tummy-bursting, sci-fi predecessor 'Alien'. It's true that the casual insubordination and adolescent banter of the US Marine platoon in the sequel is grating, the film is dated by the parallels it draws with the Vietnam War, and the maternal subplot involving Sigourney Weaver's character Ripley and her ward Newt won't float everyone's boat. But, nonetheless, 'Aliens' is a peerless, edge-of-the-seat action adventure, and the Blu-ray version deserves its renown as a staggering HD transfer. This is too much of a popcorn movie to satisfy sci-fi purists, but as a slice of entertainment it's pretty much unbeatable.

Excellent! I'm lead to believe there are no extra special features in the 30th Edition compared to previous one's however my previous editions had no special features at all so this is great. The front and back artwork is great, the back having the iconic Ripley holding Newt stance. It came with a sleeve which I really like, and unlike most steelbook sleeves, it doesn't come loose once the wrapper is taken away as it slides onto the case rather than just sitting loosely on it. Quality is an improvement on DVD and the artwork cards are great. It also came with a code for FoxExtras with a new featurette. (I haven't checked this out yet, but it's supposedly only available online till 2019 and is apparently new.) Great all round steelbook edition.

I saw this at the cinema when it first came out.

I wasn't sure if I should because I really wasn't over fussed on the first, and to top it all off sequels are notorious for being bad, but this was and still is a great film. I admit the overriding reason I saw it was that I am a Michael Biehn and Bill Paxton fan.

I admit that I hadn't watched it for a couple of years, but decided to lift it out a couple of days ago and watch it. I wasn't sorry. Even after more than 20 years this is a great film, and in my opinion the best of the alien series.

The special edition version was one of the first of the 'directors cut' film releases. It sold so well that other films were produced with a 'directors cut' extended version too. The speical edition has an extra 17 minutes which doesn't sound much but is, in fact, a great deal. The missing scenes add to the story, and are included situ within the film rather than in an extras section of their own.

There are a number of extras including an interview with James Cameron, behind the scenes footage, etc.

The story is that Ripley (Sigourney Weaver) and the cat are rescued from the emergency pod that was left at the end of the first film. She has to face an enquiry over what happened to her crew and the vessel that they were in (it is the latter that appears to be the most important to the company).

Ripley is then approached by Carter Burke (Paul Reiser) and Lt Gorman (William Hope) to join them on a mission to the planet known as LV-426. She initially refuses but then agrees, and this is were we met the rest of the cast - the marines.

One of my favourite movies of all time. It is showing its age now, effects are obviously from mid 80's but still great.

A bit pricey for the age of the film - not to say the film isn't good
