Alien Nation Blu-ray review
Alien Nation finely gets its Blu-ray release and I just love this film, and 101 FILMS have done a great job with the Blu-ray restoration, and the sound is crystal clear. But sadly you don't get any bonus features or subtitles, hence my four star score. But you do get a nice poster & revisable sleeve. Hope you enjoy my photos.

Derided by many film critics as having too little SF and being too much like a cop buddy movie I was apprehensive prior to my revisiting this 1988 film as to whether it would come across as embarrassingly dated. However, although the movie definitely has a feel of its time it has somehow retained an entertaining freshness and the themes explored are similar to those confronted in Neill Blomkamp’s District 9, but whereas that film has the South African government segregating the alien newcomers from the indigenous human population, in Alien Nation the government of the United States has granted their more humanoid alien immigrants citizenship and decreed that they are to be integrated into southern California society. Perhaps it is because the movie’s strength lies in the successful chemistry between the two lead actors (along with their predictable, but nevertheless amusing interactions) that the film does not appear dated. At times James Caan’s Matt “I’m a bigot” Sykes and newcomer Mandy Patinkin’s Sam ‘George’ Francisco appear to be reprising Steiger and Poitier in In the Heat of the Night, and even though the plotting is predictable and the car chases inevitable its obvious allegorical relevance to western countries today still resonates. However, the fast pacing of the narrative never allows the social points to overwhelm the action. I particularly enjoyed the appearance of Republican President Ronald Reagan offering these intergalactic immigrants amnesty and citizenship while the presence of Terence Stamp in any movie is a plus. In my opinion, a classic movie whether in the SF or cop buddy genre.

A brilliant 80`s sci-fi film, still up to date(ish) and this takes me back to my youth. Stars a youngish James Caan, Terence Stamp to name a few, James plays a cop in LA and becomes the new home of 300,000 humanoid extraterrestrials. Then a gang of the ET`s kills a police officer (James partner) an ET becomes his new partner and together try to find the killer and solve the crime, they soon become friends. Arrived promptly and i would recommend both the film and the seller. @:0)

I first saw this film when I was 12 and it stayed in my mind all these years. I was surprised just how well I had remembered it all when I saw it today. It's still fresh and clever and I can see why it made such an impression on me back in 1982.

However, I do have a complaint: not about the film but about the DVD. When the aliens speak to themselves in their own language there are no subtitles! Some brain-cripple responsible for the transfer forgot to put them on. They are though on the 'English for the hearing impaired'.

Slightly different from the series in a few ways but basically near enough to be a.o.k.
Great acting from all involved and a story that was true to the style of the t.v. series, but maybe a little to rushed in places.(you cant please everyone though :) )
A good movie in it`s own right and not to be missed by any sci-fi fan, bring on the popcorn and lets all enjoy it.....play movie!!!!!

Saw this film recently. It holds up well as entertainment. The Blu-ray is a decent 1080P transfer. The disc has a subtitle track and a player generated track for the Newcomer language scenes, starting with the scene in the morgue.

is a 1988 American science fiction action film written by Rockne S. O'Bannon and directed by Graham Baker. The ensemble cast features James Caan, Mandy Patinkin and Terence Stamp. Its initial popularity inaugurated the beginning of the Alien Nation media franchise. The film depicts the assimilation of the "Newcomers", an alien race settling in Los Angeles, much to the initial dismay of the local population. The plot integrates the neo-noir and buddy cop film genres with a science fiction theme, centering on the relationship between a veteran police investigator (Caan) and an extraterrestrial (Patinkin), the first Newcomer detective. The duo probe a criminal underworld while attempting to solve a homicide.

The film was a co-production between American Entertainment Partners and 20th Century Fox, which distributed it theatrically. Alien Nation explores murder, discrimination and science fiction.

Alien Nation was released in the United States on October 7, 1988, and grossed over $32 million worldwide, becoming a moderate financial success. The film was met with mixed critical reviews before its theatrical release, although it has since gained a cult following. The motion picture spawned a short-lived television series, five television films, a set of comic books, as well as a number of novels, all in an attempt to continue the character development surrounding its fictional alien culture.

A all round buddy cop movie with a alien thrown in as a the straight laced one this 80s cop action hits all the right beats and leave you satisfied.

Excellent item, service, delivery time and packaging. A great film, vastly over-rated and way before it's time! I would certainly recommend and use this seller again.
