Product Description

Product Description

Includes Rear Window, Psycho, The Birds and Vertigo.

Rear Window:
When professional photographer J.B. “Jeff” Jeffries (James Stewart) is confined to a wheelchair with a broken leg, he becomes obsessed with watching the private dramas of his neighbours play out across the courtyard. When he suspects a salesman may have murdered his nagging wife, Jeffries enlists the help of his glamorous socialite girlfriend (Grace Kelly) to investigate the highly suspicious chain of events that lead to one of the most memorable and gripping endings in all of film history.

Subtitles: English, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish

Psycho:
Anthony Perkins stars in Alfred Hitchcock’s landmark masterpiece as the troubled Norman Bates whose old dark house and adjoining motel are not the place to spend a quiet evening. Janet Leigh plays Marion Crane, the ill-fated traveller whose journey ends in the notorious “shower scene.” Horror and suspense mount to a terrifying climax where the mysterious killer is finally revealed after both Marion’s sister and a private detective search for her.

Subtitles: English SDH, Dutch, Swedish

The Birds:
As beautiful blonde Melanie Daniels (‘Tippi’ Hedren) rolls into Bodega Bay in pursuit of eligible bachelor Mitch Brenner (Rod Taylor), she is inexplicably attacked by a seagull. Suddenly thousands of birds are flocking into town, preying on school-children and residents in a terrifying series of attacks. Soon Mitch and Melanie are fighting for their lives against a deadly force that can’t be explained and can’t be stopped in one of Hollywood’s most horrific films of nature gone berserk.

Subtitles: English SDH, German, Dutch, Swedish, Norwegian, Danish, Finnish

Vertigo:
Set in San Francisco, James Stewart portrays an acrophobic detective hired to trail a friend’s suicidal wife (Kim Novak). After he successfully rescues her from a leap into the bay, he finds himself becoming obsessed with the beautifully troubled woman. One of cinema’s most chilling romantic endeavours – this film is a must for collectors.

Subtitles: English, French, Portuguese, Danish, Finish, Czech, Slovak, Norwegian, Danish, Dutch, Polish

Alfred Hitchock - Essential Collection contains Psycho, Rear Window, Vertigo and The Birds. It's just 4 previous older DVD versions put together. I didn't mind the fact because I didn't own these films previously. All 4 films are in their own separate cases and comes with some extras.

Rear Window comes with 2 featurettes and some trailers, art gallery.

Vertigo comes with commentary track involving people who worked on the film, 30 min featurette on restoration and production of the film, and trailer.

Psycho has only a trailer and no other extras.

The Birds has 1 hour 20 min long documentary, Tippi Hedren's screen test, Deleted scene + alternate ending( via storyboards and script pages), Universal News reel and a trailer. Picture is 4:3 aspect ratio.

Overall not bad collection for those who want to experience Hitchcock for the first time. But could have used better versions.

Even now these films stand up as well made, scary additions to horror.

Psycho does what it says on the tin succeeding to unsettle the viewer and give them a pathological fear of showers henceforth. 5/5

Vertigo has a good pace and is a quaint thriller that will deffinately entertain through out. 4/5

Rear view window is an intriguing piece of cinema that was been conceived brilliantly. Quite columbo-esque 4/5

The Birds leaves you on a cliffhanger of uncertainty after tearing your understanding of ornithological behaviour to shreds. 5/5

These were great and I loved all the movies. My particular favourite is Rear Window, to be able to create that much suspense from just looking out one window, that is amazing. Anyway fast delivery and everything in good condition, especially since I brought this as a gift for a friend as well. I just wish I could have had a couple more of his films in this collection.

Great Hitchcock box set that groups together 4 genuine classic Hitchcock movies. I have longer reviews on individual releases. Here you get Rear Window, Vertigo, The Birds and Psycho, so a real feel to later 50s Hitchcock. All films are 10/10 material- wonderfully shot and acted. Vertigo was recently voted the greatest movie of all time.

Four films , all classics. Watch them over a four week period with my 15 year old son , who hadn't even heard of Hitchcock before. He loved them , especially 'Psycho'. Technically not up to today's standards but the story telling and the suspense can't be beat.

How many times have I seen these films. Still excellent watching. I know most of the dialogue to Psycho, which has to be one of the best films of all time - "we all go a little mad sometimes", brilliant.
