The authentic book is a two volume work whereas this is an oddly slimmed down version of 50 pages or so.
That would be fine but there are some extremely questionable bits that are at odds with the original work. Strangely the book doesn't list the author (i.e. the translator) of this work and I do question the intention of the translation team who allegedly reproduced the work. It is hard to imagine they behaved in good faith given the material presented and material omitted. A fair bit of cherry picking...
Finally the publishers themselves are a self-publishing group. This book hasn't been vetted as best as I can tell with regards to adhering and faithfully reproducing to AlGhazzali's original work, or if the translation is up to scratch (which as best as I can tell isn't!).
Do not buy this book. I have no issues with the seller who dispatched quite promptly and transaction was smooth.
I read some chapters in Persian and compared them to Field's translation the other day and what are quite weird and other-worldy passages worthy of Castaneda become mundane sermons in his rendition....
A must read for every human being (not only muslims) if you want to see the strange side of universe and your existance. Tries to break the absoluteness of money, power hunger, Lust of sex (and even eating too much), proudness, hypocracy etc. This means that Imam Ghazali relates our every day acts to the rise and fall of our spiritual effectiveness and our spiritual place before God. Brilliant to say the least. A MUST READ even if you don't want to read a single book in your life. (I've started reading it for the third time since I've got it without a day's break).
