This was a double live album recorded at the Hammersmith Odeon now the Apollo around 1981/2. Loved by fans for the 11 and a half minete version of SULTANS OF SWING. Great sound and DIRE STRAITS are on top form with HAL LINDES on geetar. This cd dbl cost me about £5 so worth getting this dbl cd rather than the 2 separate cds you can get.

It's always good to listen to this double album from Dire Straits because they were very special those days. They had very high quality sound, they were brilliant musicians and they always did something unexpected. Don't think I should say more; get it and enjoy because it's a must for people who like good music.

Alchemy - Dire Straits Live - Two CD Set

this album,in my humble opinion is pure magic.I have a good many of their albums but none bar Alchemy have telegraph road
which is one of knopflers greatest works.I do have it on vinyl,or did,i just cant find it..( thats telegraph road, not alchemy)
Dire Straits are one of a few bands that sound great recorded or live.

once upon a time in the west, romeo & juliet, private investigations, solid rock, going home--the theme from local hero are all there and more.

Mark knopfler is at his peak here and has been called the'worlds top guitar virtuoso' and if you buy and listen to ALCHEMY-LIVE
you will,i bet, agree....

Cons
1) It's one of those live albums that was edited down from a much longer concert, or even concerts, and feels a bit short.
2) It's a shame they never took the chance when remastering to do a proper job of the fade in to Expresso Love which seems to contain 30 seconds or more of the tail end of 'Industrial Disease' - some other dodgy fades between tracks.
3) It's also a pity they didn't take the opportunity to add in a few more songs to pad out the two discs - there's only two songs over a single CD's worth of material here.
Pros
That said, this is an excellent live album and the performances are infinitely superior to the live (though not very a-live) tracks that came bundled at the end of a so-so 'greatest hits' type release a few years ago (I think it the 'Sultans of Swing' compilation).
Definitely worth the very small amount of money you have to pay for this once over-priced work - it's a must buy for any DS fan and well worth revisiting.

A real blast from the past that I had to get again as I sold all my vinyl off years ago. What was I thinking!! Great album and full of the classic Dire Straits' songs.

had this album as a kid... borrowed the vinyl, bought the vinyl, had the tape and then for ages nothing... and i missed it... it's one of my "key" albums... and one of the first live albums i owned (along with Joe Walsh's "YOU CAN'T ARGUE WITH A SICK MIND" & "Wings Over America") - so pleased I've obtained this again... it brought back loads of memories.... and the re-master is as sweet as a peach...

Could this be the best live album ever? Well, I personally would give that title to Pink Floyds' Pulse album. But its up there! Just a great feel good chill out album. Enjoy!
