Product description

About the Author

My name is Joel Gillespie. I have been writing since I was a child, but my passion for it grew in my tenth grade year of high school. I was always a huge fan of video games, particularly RPGs, and I also loved fantasy stories. As I went in to college, I developed a liking for anime, which added to my influence in writing. Above all, you will come to see that my belief in the God of the Bible and the Lord Jesus Christ is apparent in my writing. I am the proud husband of my beautiful wife, Krystal, and the proud father of my amazing son Solomon. I live in Memphis, Tennessee and currently work as a bank Teller in Collierville. One day I hope to be a full time author and possibly start a small publishing company of my own. One way or another, I will use my gift that God has given me to His glory.

5.0 out of 5 stars GREAT debut offering that is fun, fresh and fantastic! 27 July 2014
By Frank Fournier - Published on Amazon.com

This book was an awesome read! There was a lot of great backstory and character development, which means that I'll (finally) get to be one of those nerds who says, "The book was a lot better," when the movie comes out...! The basics of the book are familiar (i.e. Biblical similarities in the beginning and an impending good vs. evil war) yet, the personal interactions and imagery make the offering feel fresh and fun. There are a LOT of new names of people, places, and concepts flying around to draw you into the magical world of the author's imagination!!

I think anyone looking for an exciting read would be happy to get in on the ground floor of this series. There is a vast expanse of information that I think we'll need to know for the next books in the series, so I'm planning on reading it again --before the next installment is released-- just to make sure I've got everything right.

The characters are memorable and (mostly) loveable... After all, there are some evil ones we've just GOT to hate, right? I don't want to set up any spoilers, but there is tremendous room for future romances, betrayals, odd-pairings, etc. (((There's also one character, in particular, that I can't wait to catch up with in the next book!!!)))

I could go on and on about how good I think this debut piece is from a talented, young author with a bright future... or how the book is appropriate for just about all ages north of 12 or 13 or something... OR about how this book can make even a non-fantasy reader forget about life for a while and stretch out his/her mind in an exciting new "world of evil wrought from malice old"... but, hey... the book is just $2.99 right now for *Kindle. What are you waiting for??

*I should mention that I actually bought a paperback copy from the Booksellers at Laurelwood in Memphis, TN. I'm just good like that. Plus, I'm hoping maybe I can get the author to sign it for me...??
5.0 out of 5 stars Great read 23 Sept. 2013

Good plot, great character's, classic good vs. evil story.

Darkness is descending after years of relative peace in the realm. Read as the kingdom rises up to met the threat. Great action thru out the book. Hero`s, fallen angels, angels, and a heavy dose of God.

Great fantasy story will undertones of religion, noticeable thru dialog and beliefs presented thru out the novel. Not heavy handed in the religious theme, but not just fluff either. Great balance in the story telling

3.0 out of 5 stars Okay but not great 18 Oct. 2013

Too wordy and stilted dialogue, bogging down the storyline with too much description and little action. The idea could have made a good read with better writing.

4.0 out of 5 stars As the storyline moves forward the pace of the action picks up and becomes an easy, enjoyable read 5 July 2014
By Dennis Gillespie - Published on Amazon.com

The book starts slow as the characters and background are developed. As the storyline moves forward the pace of the action picks up and becomes an easy, enjoyable read. I am an avid reader, particularly of fantasy and enjoy the traditional good vs. evil storyline. The book imports biblical themes and teaching that add meaning for a Christian reader, but do not prevent someone not familiar with Christian teaching from enjoying the book. Several of the characters are very likeable and easy to root for. The book has humor and action, trying to make serious points without being too serious. The conclusion is appropriate, but has open story lines that leaves the reader wanting to see the next installment in this series.

3.0 out of 5 stars Well Written But Paragraphs Too Long 6 Nov. 2013
By David G. Davis - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Kindle Edition Verified Purchase
First, let me say I am not attracted to fantasy. I read the prologue, amused that it resembled God, the creation, and Satan being expunged from heaven as recorded in the Bible. As a Bible student, I felt uneasy with this, comparing it to Bible truths in the book of Genesis.

Although this is well written, the long paragraphs drove me crazy. I longed for some dialogue, not just description and story. I found myself skimming, then page-jumping through two, maybe three chapters. Perhaps this book will earn five stars from fantasy lovers.
