With the massive smash of "Mundian To Bach Ke" behind him, Panjabi Mc is the latest Anglo-Indian to smartly mix hip-hop, garage and reggae. The Album sets out to capitalise on his success but Rajinder Rai is no newcomer, having been on the circuit for over 10 years. In 1999 he made the biggest-selling bhangra record ever: that was Legalised, his third album. The Album is a sort of greatest hits record that catches Panjabi MC in transition from bhangra singer to urban rhymer, and his early attempts at gangsta rap such as "Soundz of the Des" and "True MCs" sit at odds with his latest work. As "Mundian…" was based on the Knight Rider theme, so "Jatt Ho Giya Sharabee" rides on top of the theme from Magnum. "Jugni" dips deep into the bhangra and breakbeat back-catalogue to pull up something truly unusual whereas Jay Z's remix of "Mundian…" is essentially the US rap superstar rhyming over the top of the same beat. It's not revolutionary, but Jay Z is a big name for a Coventry artist to get on board and certain to bring in extra fans. --Jake Barnes

You might think that Panjabi MC is a new artist, but he has been doing this for the last 10 years. He was one of the first Indian artists to MC. He grew up in Coventry (the same town as me).
This album might seem like a debut album but it is actualy like his greatest hits which makes this probably the best Bhangra album ever!
It has a variaty of different kinds of tunes. Anyone who likes Bhangra, Hip Hop, RnB and Garage will like this album. My Favourite tracks are 'Mirza pt 2', 'Mundian To Bach Ke' and 'Jogi'.
Bhangra music was originated in Panjab (India) and started to get popular in the UK when the early imagrants from Panjab made Bhangra music as a hobby to remind them of home. Then it got mixed with western music. Now it has grown to a mainstream level and is liked all over the world.
Panjabi MC has made me, and all other Indians very proud. He has bought Bhangra into the mainstream and this will allow other Indian artists who are as good as him come into the mainstream

Bhangra versus the english charts! Now thats something many people didnt think they'd see. The blend of Bhangra beats of the dhol and tumbhi cleaverly mastered to take effect with the sweet sound of rnb, produced by the coventry based artist Panjabi MC has most definently caused a storm amongst music lovers.
This album consists of many old tracks which have been mastered on the decks and brought in line with the fast changing music scene of today. Most the songs on this album had been released in 1997, on the album Legalised, which was distrubuted amonsgt asian music retail outlets. But the recognition which has been well overdue has finally been pushed as far as to a place in the charts top ten with his single Mundian To Bach Ke has opened the door for many other bhangra artists.
Artsist such as Rischi Rich, MC Metz, Bally Sagoo are now finnaly also being recognised in the music industry. For a time when you would walk into highstreet shops such as HMV and find english music, to now see a section totally designated to Desi Beats, is an achievement for all.
The style in which Panjabi MC has worked, with reference to his music, stands clear and loud. Its a taste of new and fresh bhangra, and a mix of the the old with the new. The lyrics carry an indepth meaning but so does the beat, the music, the melody which brings to life the essence of the music.

Although this album is a upgrade of the Legalised album it still is fantastic. It has all the requirements of a modern Bhangra CD, classic gidha, beats and the mixing punjabi guzlai. They have tried hard to furhter thier career and this album will do it for them as they had no publicity from thier Legalised album released before the turn of the Century. I loved Mundian To Bach Ke when it first came out - but hadn't reallylistened to Bhangra before this tune.
Now I love the album - and MirzaPart II is one of my favourites.

Not being Asian myself I was first introduced to Bhangra by an Indian lady I worked with about fifteen years ago who was a very accomplished singer and dancer, and as someone who has been into rap and Hip Hop since the 1970's I was pleasantly surprised to come across Jogi on a certain popular video website. Having listened to it dozens of times along with Mundian To Bach Ke and several others I just had to buy the album.

Honestly, I have no idea what the songs are about for the most part but it really doesn't matter - over the last few years I have taken a journey through rap from all over Africa, Asia and the Far East and I love it.

This album is actually 'The Album' by MC Panjabi so don't me mislead. I've had 2 of these in years gone by but have sent them on their travels, 1 sits in Goa in Dad's car, the other on Majorda Beach amongst the shacks.I'll be chillin in March in Goa 2012 24/3! Got myself another one as great tunes. Mirza is my favourite.
