The Perfect Diary for Tony Blair's final years in office.
28 November 2017
I really enjoyed this diary as I did with all the previous Alastair diaries. It is a perfect historical document which goes into detail about Tony Blair's final years as PM. The interactions are lovely to read and one feels you are there in the room with them. Alastair is the perfect diarist and I have to say I was really tearful when I read the last page where Tony Blair states "that's it this is the end". The book does go into great detail about Alastair's consultations with his psychiatrist and these do make for interesting if somewhat difficult reading. I could draw my own conclusions why his mental health was in such a state. He really should have kept away from Politics. I get the distinct impression he had a mini nervous breakdown but put his party first. I would hope he is in a better place now. Looking forward to the next volume so much.
If you are into politics and need to know the intricacies of the latter Blair years this is the book for you.
My one negative on this book is that the grammar and spelling on a few pages is really bad. The onus of this lies with the publishers but I feel this book would be a good book to place in front of a pupil who is sitting his/her G.C.S.E English Language exam and ask to spot the errors as there are copious. The proof reading I presume was a rushed job. Would have been good to have seen a few photos too.
Well done Alastair and thank you for sharing these with us all.
