I have just bought this easy to assemble model kit together with the Messerschmidt antagonist for my seven year old son. Both models were shipped in record time by Amazon and my boy managed to assemble the plane within a quarter of an hour without any difficulties. The parts match together well and the decals are easily attached. Together with his younger brother my son is now able to re-enact the Battle of Britain in our living room. All in all the Lego inspired system is a pleasant new addition to the classic back catalogue that is currently reissued by Airfix. Compared to the famous Danish company Airfix doesn't offer any working features apart from the propellor - no opening canopy, no working landing gear, which costs the product one star in my rating. Another troublespot are the decals: once the model is crashed, the stickers will get lost pretty soon. It would have been a better choice to print the decals on the plastic parts (which is by the way, also the impression that you get when looking at the backside of the box). For me as a grown up who used to play with Airfix and Lego in his childhood alike, I'd be more than happy about a bigger scale model in the Quick Build range. How about developing a 1/24 Spifire for this series?

I am 54 years old and enjoy making construction kits with Airfix new mould kits being amongst the very best you can get. This is a new departure for Airfix.
My son bought this for me for Christmas as a bit of a joke and I had a great time assembling it!
It is very well designed with close fitting pieces but not completely straight forward. You have to follow pictorial plans which are both clear and challenging enough for youngsters, testing their patience and dexterity. The parts can be dis-assembled to allow others to make it and the kit comes with a set of stickers with registration numbers, tail flashes and roundels to finish off a beautiful model, though, of course, you would have to slice the stickers with a sharp craft knife if you wanted to take it apart and make it again in future as the stickers do cover some if the edges of the pieces - adults should do this bit!
The scale is slightly larger than 1:48 so you end up with a tough model of a decent size that children can have great fun with without the worry of permanently damaging it.
This really is a great product and it is no wonder that Airfix won an award in 2013 for producing a well-made and designed set of kits that involve the skills of manual dexterity, following instructions and with great play value.
IT'S GREAT!

I bought my son the F22 Raptor quick build for Christmas which he loved, and we were pretty impressed how well it went (and has stayed) together. He decided he wanted to spend his remaining Christmas money on another kit, and he wanted the Spitfire. I am most impressed with this kit especially the size of it, normally kids toys have a large box and a small toy inside but in this case its much larger than the Raptor, I was expecting it to be around the same size as normal 1/72 Airfix kits, but its more like a 1/48 scale being about 25cm wingspan. It looks really good and he's so proud that he builds these alone, hopefully this one is as robust as the Raptor.

This is a push-fit model based on the Lego principle. It is cunningly designed in coloured plastic pieces which when assembled give a convincing camouflage finish without any painting. The propeller does tend to fall off as it is just a push-fit in its bearing. This necessitates removal of the engine cowling and reinsertion of the propeller and bearing. There is a risk that the bearing could easily be lost as it is a very small item. I cured this problem by putting a very small dab of glue on the bearing before attaching the propeller (the propeller still rotates freely). There are no guns or gun ports on the model although the box shows a Spitfire with all guns blazing. There are however wheels in the retracted position. It would have been a nice touch to have included a pilot to go in the cockpit. My 5 year old grandson and I assembled the kit in about an hour. He identified each piece and where it should go. I pressed the pieces together as some finger strength is needed to ensure a robust assembly. I stuck the decals on, as they are a bit tricky to get in the right position. There are about 36 parts to assemble in a similar number of steps. The pictorial instructions are generally clear, though the colour printing has a slightly muddy appearance for some reason. This is an attractive model of a beautiful, iconic aircraft at a reasonable price.

Great little kit which our 5 year enjoyed building. We got it as he loves lego but thought it would be something a bit different. It does however not take to well to being flown around the room and could probably due with a spot or two of glue to hold it in place

my 4 & 1/2 year old grandson really enjoyed fixing this together( with some supervision & help. I had plenty of kits as a child and used to get in a bit of a state with some! forget that with this kit at least, however the kit does tend to come apart if played with (leave transfers off in this case). therefore would suggest to judiciously stick the wings on, if so.
