Airfix have really improved in the last few years and some of their kits more than equal the best Japanese manufacturers.Their new Fairey Swordfish kit is excellent and has been reviewed very favourably by expert reviewers. The 1:48 Westland Lynx kits are also brilliant. For those wanting super detailing many brass etched and resin parts are available from specialist manufacturers.
Parts fit well, small gaps can be found around the wing roots and the underside of the fuselage were the flap for the radiator can be found. The windscreen will need test fitting to the fuselage as I had problems fitting it properly. The ends of the of the undercarriage legs where they fit to the inside of the bays need taking down a little and one of the legs needed warming and reshaping to fit properly. A couple of holes need drilling in the wings for the fuel tank mounts and the stand if your using one.
The decals are a pleasure, had no problems with any of them except the yellow strips that are found on the wings leading edge. The decals really need a softener to sit properly so patient and Gunze Mr Mark decal softener helped with these. Best to remove the strip as usual in water then I soaked the decal in some Mr Mark, balanced it on the leading edge and applied more softener and pressed the decal down.
Having paint as well as decals included makes the kit good for a starter pack as it doesn't assume that you already have done models before.
The kit is easy for a novice yet still challenging enough to make it worthwhile buying as it will probably take us 6 hours to complete.

Nice kit for a beginner. Undercarriage splayed out wider than desired, but otherwise was fun to build.Published 6 months ago by R. Warren
Good product, although packaging was a bit shoddy and some bits were torn at. Although, the product was there, so it is fine.Published 10 months ago by LM
