However, I purchased the Aircast A60 after hearing Andy Murray wears one. I figured if he can play tennis in it I can play football in it. It has been worth every penny. I now have the confidence to play for 50/50's again, to change direction and fully commit without worrying. I've played almost 20 games in a row for the first time in about 7 years, and I don't think I'd ever set foot on the pitch again without it.
I wear it under my socks with a shin pad on top, and I forget I'm even wearing it. I've heard some people complain that it digs in but mine has caused me no problems a all... I can only speak as I find, and in my opinion if you are prone to ankle sprains then you need one of these!
5 out of 5 for sure!
Best of luck to anyone with a similar problem!
Without a brace I could not run around for extended periods and in that respect it succeeded, it is very supportive and rigid. My ankle has never rolled or being further damaged whilst wearing the brace.
HOWEVER, these braces are not well made. The inside velcro which secures the brace inside the large strap which wraps around became detached the first time I wore it. Furthermore, the grey webbing down the sides becomes very easily damaged and within 2 weeks of playing squash in it it was badly ripped and damaged. This was NOT something I expected from a product of such good reputation (worn by Andy Murray etc.) and at such a cost.
I am now at a cross roads. My ankle is still very much unstable however my A60 brace is no longer wearable. The newer Airsport design seems to have addressed some of the problems I have encountered but I do not know if I can trust Aircast to have delivered a more durable product. I would hate to spend another £50 on a brace for the stitching on the velcro to come undone at the very first wear again!
Although these provide good protection they are pricey and I am tempted to look elsewhere for my replacement. In hindsight I should have returned the protect at the first defect and got my money back however I didn't really want to kick up a fuss.
I bought this item about six weeks ago and the first thing that struck me when putting it on was how 'safe' my ankle felt.
I play netball and, despite intensive physio after each one, I suffered three avulsion fractures in less than 18 months. I wanted to go back to netball but was, understandably, quite nervous at the prospect. I searched around for some sort of support/brace that would offer peace of mind.
I am so glad I chose the Aircast A60 Ankle Brace. It is lightweight but very sturdy. I feel it there as I put it on but shortly afterwards, I hardly (if at all) notice that I'm wearing it. I certainly don't feel it when running around the court - changing direction, this way and that - at speed. I feel able to land, from a running jump (a lot of the time out to the side rather than in a straight line) on my weaker ankle, without fear of my ankle 'rolling' over.
This product has brought me reassurance, a renewed confidence in the air, and back to enjoying netball.
The reason for my 4 star rating instead of 5 would be that if I'm in it for a long time (tournaments), or have a particularly arduous match, my upper ankle can be sore for a little while after taking it off. However, I feel that is a small price to pay for the assurance, confidence and safety I feel when wearing it.
When you first put it on it without a training shoe it will make you wonder if it is actually doing anything. Putting your shoe on you suddenly see what it is doing as your ankle immediately firms right up. These might be expensive compared to other sorts of braces available but these actually work extremely well. Just make sure you wrap the strap tight.
Andy Murray wears this exact model so if its good enough for him to play professional tennis without suffering pronation issues then they are more than good enough for a duffer like me!!
One day later and i am happy to spend most of my time without any crutches.
The product offers excellent support and comfort.
It is a little bulky going into the shoe/trainer but i expected this based on the level of support.
I am sure this will help me get back to sporting activities a lot quicker and aid in my recovery.

Got this for a sprained ankle, easy to wear and take off. Not rigid enough to prevent ankle lateral movement completely, so not sure of its value in immobilising and rest damaged... Read morePublished 12 months ago by sadespace
