A literary legend became a TV phenomenon when David Suchet took on the role of Hercule Poirot, Agatha Christies most famous sleuth. This incredible deluxe box set includes 20 discs filled with the most devious detective stories ever brought to screen. Using his "little grey cells" and aided by the affable Captain Hastings (Hugh Fraser), Poirot unravels the thorniest cases without mussing a hair of his famously sculpted mustache. Lush art deco period details and scripts infused with delicious Christie wit make these mysteries irresistible.

Also. Why is the young female ingenue such an unlovable character - in every episode where one appears. Are they of their time, I wonder? Have just finished listening to The Peril at End House and looking forward to the television version - to see how different they are. If at all.
When after a long days work you sit down to watch Poirot, you seem to enter a parallel world, which is predictable, peopled by well mannered, educated characters, who you would like to meet in real life. The stories are guaranteed not to disturb you in any way. In my home watching Poirot is paramount to meditation.

However, this set would not play properly on my U.S. DVD player, so I sent an inquiry to Amazon.co.uk asking for a suggested solution. In their prompt and thorough response the Amazon customer service representative suggested I purchase a multi-region DVD player through the U.S. Amazon.com website. I subsequently purchased just such a player, and after verifying that it would in fact correctly play Region 2 DVDs, I then ordered the Poirot set from Amazon.co.uk.
Although delivery took longer than I expected (25 days or so), the set arrived safely and so far all viewed episodes have played flawlessly. It should be noted that the manufacturer of this set has created an ingenious storage system which allows the 32 discs to be safely stored in individual plastic "pages" within two booklets in a case that measures 7.5 x 5.5 x 5.0 inches.
Considering that there are 65 episodes included in this set, my cost was 1 USD per episode - considerably less than I would be required to pay to stream those same episodes for one-time viewing from U.S. providers. (And, the picture and sound quality from the DVDs is better!)
Altogether, I am very pleased with this DVD set and with the assistance and service I received from Amazon.co.uk!
