I just loved this, it reminded me of Real but it was different and I mean good different! Makayla meets Torment (Max) who happens to be a hot mma fighter of course lol, their first encounter was too funny and I really enjoyed learning more about their characters, and where the storyline took them. Makayla tried to earn some extra cash, agreeing to help her best friend Amanda in selling tickets to mma matches, she reluctantly gets thrown into the world of Max and mma fighting, the only problem she had was hiding her anxiety of seeing violence taking place in the ring, anxiety which would creep up on her reminding her of a tormented past, making her physically sick every time a match would take place. This book had bits of FSOG bdsm elements but not to Mr Grey's extreme lol! I loved the romance between Makayla and Max, he was just so sweet, hot and sexy! I really liked how the story was not just based on what went on in the ring with the characters but outside as well. Elements of crime take place causing hero worship and pulse rate excitement, total page turner! I absolutely loved Jake and Amanda and really felt Jakes' pain, I would love to see a second book please! Need more of Max and Makayla and Jake and Amanda, awesome read, made my favourites list!

Makayla is a really entertaining first person narrator, and her acerbic and self-deprecating humour makes the story bounce along. Max is a bit of an arse, but I warmed up to him as the story unfolds, and he has a million ideas for rope!

The secondary characters offer light relief to Max's brooding ways, they lighten the story overall, stopping the main plot from becoming overwhelmingly maudlin.

Star of the show, however, is Colton; every woman needs a Colton in her life!! Nevermind your non-stop superstuds, someone who will cook me dinner and wash up after is what I crave.

This is a hit and miss kind of book.

First, you have to get over the fact that the author leans heavily on the full stop for punctuation with little else. This therefore meant that it took a little longer for me to get into it.

Makayla seemed ok as a character, but she seemed to have everything thrown at her. A nasty boss, another boss that fancied her, poor because of her student debts, no parents… oh and a dislike of violence and blood, but yet she works at the hospital and has her EMT certificate. Oh, don't forget her man has to come save her too….

Torment (aka Max Huntingdon) is another character that seems to have everything thrown at him. He's an MMA type fighter n the underground circuit, has BDSM and dominant tendencies, dead parents, money, a mile wide possessive streak, temperament issues etc….

I mean some of this would be ok, but all thrown into one book makes it feel cheap and overdone. Even Makayla's best friend seems more like Samantha in Sex in the City, sleeping around and talking far too explicitly about what she's doing or about to do.

There is a decent story buried in there somehow, but everything takes away from it leaving you feeling kinda sorry you picked up the book.

One saving grace for me was the texting between Max and Makayla, however it was still a little FSOF like in that regard (where they have emails instead).

Although I read this book pretty much in one sitting, it was mainly to get the book over with. I'll read the second book in the series, simply to know what happens with Amanda (the BFF), however its not a book I will be recommending to anyone.

I enjoyed this book, though looking at the fighter on the cover and reading the description of the fighter, they dont match up!
I really loves the humour in the story line, and it is a grasping story line, with a whole array of situations and emotions that will take you up and down on an emotional roller-coaster.
Makayla as a character i liked, her independence, being proud, but also how she is kind and she loves peoples, reading her part in this was enjoyable. I did find it a bit confusing when she wanted to dump max for torment, as she liked torment; when they are both the same person!!
I found the loan shark situation a bit unrealistic, tbh there are ways to deal with ppl like that, and then after all that happened, for her to find out who the loan shark is and suddenly understand why he needs money and gets him money by letting max pay out; its unrealistic, making the loan shark in to a good guy!! err NO!!
Some of the tension moments didn't come together fully for me, e.g. the loan shark, but some did e.g. the fights.
On the whole and easy and enjoyable book to read and I will be looking out for more my the author.
I however am pleased to find a book where they have safe sex, and none of this ''im on the pill lets go with out a condom'' < you can still catch infections without using one and to much sex can give you thrush lol!! its also great to have a story with out the ''accidental pregnancy'' popping up! over all its a great read, i gave it 4 out of 5 stars purely because as its a one off book for these characters, an epilogue to give incite in to the their future would have been nice to give a clear happy ending and closure to their story.
