The Safety and Convenience AfterShokz Strives to Provide
Runners powered by their favourite sound track but still able to hear the traffic around, biker hearing both GPS navigation and cars approaching from behind, office worker enjoying music still maintaining communication with colleagues, mom listening to her podcast but won't miss a single sound bit of her baby in the cradle, vision impaired going around the town hearing both GPS and surroundings… Better yet, there is nothing in their ears.
Bone conduction technology allows hearing the world around you with nothing in your ears.
Officially Recognized Safety
Approved by England Athletics. Safer for running, cycling and driving.
All Day Comfort
Our lightest headphone, ONLY 30g. Compatible with glasses.
What is bone conduction?
We hear bone conduction sound while eating, drinking and scratching our head, etc. We also hear ourselves talking partially through bone conduction. That's why we perceive our own voice differently from what other people hear. Taking advantage of this natural phenomenon, bone conduction transducers guide micro-vibration through the cheekbones to the inner ears, delivering sound without plugging or covering them.

I’ve struggled to find the right set of headphones, the Apple earpods have served me well but end up breaking because of sweat (minging). I had the same problem with Bose sports headphones having them replaced three times.
I tried a couple of wireless headphones and had issues with sound isolation (dangerous), wind noise and that weird thumping everytime your foot strikes the ground.
So I thought I’d try these. I’m really glad I did.
Very easy to setup, battery will last 4 or 5 hours, and they fit so well you forget you are wearing them - on my last 17 mile run I didn’t have to adjust them once.
Sound quality isn’t as good as in-ear headphones but that’s like saying a convertible car doesn’t handle as well as a hard top, different tools for different jobs. The sound is a little ‘tinny’, it lacks base and mid, but it’s something you only notice before you leave the house. Let’s face it, running headphones don’t have to have the best sound, they need good sound, good battery, comfort and not isolate you from your surroundings. I have my Bose QC35s if I want to immerse myself.
You can hear everything that goes on around you, and the direction it’s coming from.
The buttons need a little work, the press needs a more affirmative click - it’s tricky to find the button and know if you clicked it (while waiting for the digital blip for confirmation), especially with running gloves.
Fix the buttons and improve the sound a little more, and these would absolutely perfect. Even with these areas for improvement - we’ll worth the £150.
These take a bit of getting used to as it is more like being in a room with speakers than having phones on/in your ears.
These are supremely comfortable. Way more comfortable that any sports headphones I have had, and I've had the full Sennheiser range, Sony and Bose. Because these rest against your head there are none of the sweat-in-the-ear problems traditional sports phones have.
I use these running (1 to 6 hours) so being aware of my surroundings is important, be that the sound of oncoming cars or simply the sounds of the forest in the mountains. It is easy to switch from the music in your head to the sounds outside.
Sound quality is excellent (except no driving bass to weaken your eardrums). Particularly good with jazz and classical but still fine with a bit of AC/DC. They do really highlight the difference between using lossless files and MP3.
Some reviews on the web say there is not much difference between these and the older Titaniums - not so. I tried both and these are more comfortable with superior sound so worth the extra cost.
In summary, if you want good quality sounds, comfort and the ability to hear what's happening around you when out running or cycling then these are for you.
Very much better than in-ear headphones for comfort, and not emitting as constant quiet hiss as some other bluetooth headphones do.
If you're lying down, the headband at the back gets in the way. No problem, just move it to the top of your head; the transducers work fine in different positions on your head.
Lack of a 'skip back' button control is rather a shame. I'd be using that far more often than skip forward, for instance when listening to podcasts after having paused due to an interruption. You need to skip back a bit just to get back into context.
Others have mentioned the transducers tickling. This only happens at high volumes, and almost never in my normal listening conditions.
They feel very well made and robust. Maybe spectacle frames could be made this way for durability and comfort, with a titanium alloy core coated with silicone rubber.
A limit of two devices maximum for pairing is rather low and something they might improve in future.
I struggle to sleep and as a bonus I use these with a sleep Hypnosis app. As they are so unobtrusive it’s really easy to fall asleep with them on.
If I want immersive I’ll use my nose qc35’s, if I want to exercise, it’s the Aftershockz every time.
Turning out to be quite handy going witless in the gym. It definitely not going to replace my high-end audio headphones in terms of musically... But is good. Just need a lot of adjusting against the head/jaws to avoid to much discomfort then I'm good to go.
