Product Description

AfterShokz Bluez open ear wireless headphones combine the convenience, reliability and performance of Bluetooth wireless connectivity with the comfort and safety of open ear bone conduction technology to provide consumers with an entirely new way to stay connected. Unlike conventional Bluetooth headphones and earbuds that use the eardrums to transmit sound, Aftershokz Bluez headphones utilize patent pending bone conduction technology to deliver sound through the listener's cheekbones to the inner ear. This enables anyone using them to make/take phone calls and stay connected to both what they are listening to and the outside world - from warning sounds outdoors while walking or driving to a nearby colleague in an office setting. Most bluetooth devices are designed for use in one ear, but AfterShokz Bluez sit comfortably in front of the ears and provide listeners with a stereophonic sound experience. The innovative and elegantly simple design of AfterShokz Bluez open ear headphones is built around a beautifully designed, highly ergonomic, extremely stable, one-piece wraparound headband. The open ear design and the light weight of AfterShokz Bluez make them extremely comfortable and stable, even when used over extended periods of time. AfterShokz Bluez open ear wireless bluetooth headphones deliver the safest and most comfortable way of staying connected on the planet.

1.0 out of 5 stars If they worked wirelessly they would be brilliant! 28 Sept. 2014

Oh dear! At this price I expected something good and it was in every respect ... except one. Sound, whilst not top quality, was really rather good. Connecting to my iPhone was simple. Fit was very comfortable.

So off to the open moors for some dog walking. Radio on, I placed the iPhone in my (right) trouser pocket and lost connection with the Bluez, tried the left pocket with the same result. Maybe a back pocket? Well, it sort of worked but depended on if my right leg was forward of backward for the connection!! In desperation, I transferred the phone to my (left) shirt breast pocket and cured the problem - perfect connection ... provided that I looked straight ahead or to the right! The moment I turned my head just 5 degrees left connection was lost!

So to summarise, the Bluez only seem to lack a mounting bracket on the headphones for your iPhone and then they will work brilliantly wirelessly! Seems that a 2cm gap is more than they can cope with!

Think I'm exaggerating? This is what Aftershokz said "We do have a new, upgraded version of the Bluez, the Bluez 2, in which we believe we have addressed those concerns plus a few others and corrected them."

They sell them knowing there is a problem!!! Buyer beware!

5.0 out of 5 stars Almost an extra sense... 25 July 2014
Verified Purchase
What a gadget!
Like upgrading a 2 channel stereo to 2.1 (ie adding a sub woofer).
You get an extra semi-sense.
Its amazing!
You can still hear normally, yet have another channel playing into your hearing... eg music, radio etc.

I got these headphones to:
1) wear when cycling so I could still hear traffic
2) act as a decent / easy to use "hands free" kit as I keep my iphone encased in a waterproof / shockproof case, so the audio quality for normal voice calls is compromised

For 1) they work really well, obviously as you go faster eg. 15 to 20 mph or more, the wind noise rises and the music becomes less audible. They are not the same quality as a £100 in-ear earphones (eg Bose) but as long as you position them correctly, the quality is fine.

For 2) they work brilliantly. Hands free. Wireless. Long battery life.

Overall a great product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Wow! Love these headphones 12 Jan. 2014
These headphones have really great sound quality. I couldn't quite believe how very good the sound quality was. I was cynical beforehand about how good a headphone that doesn't go very near your ears could be - but my cynicism was unfounded. They are wireless which is really handy - it is possible to do other things without getting twisted up in wires. So the exercise bike, ironing, cooking etc is not dangerous. They are also really great for people with hearing or sight problems. I have a blind friend who uses them and they say that the good thing is that they can still hear everything else going on in the background around them when they are on the move and using them which is of course essential. I use hearing aids and can continue to use them whilst using the headphones and my hearing is then not impaired whilst listening to music. Overall this is a fantastic product.

5.0 out of 5 stars Great bit of kit! 9 Sept. 2014

Very happy with these, have had them for a week now, came ready to use, pairing was very simple as is switching between devices. Got them primarily for cycling to work with as they allow me to hear the road clearly while enjoying some tunes. But since then have kept them on at work, as can still hear all around me while discreetly listening to music. they fit fine under cycle helmet, (and also under long hair) had to loosen helmet strap slightly but fine otherwise, am also able to wear shades over them too. did try the support band provided, and while it did as advertised, give a tighter fit, I found this wasn't best for cycling as you are lifting and twisting your head a lo so they needs to be a bit of give. Even so the fit is comfy an stays in place well when using around office or house. You do not need a high volume to hear things clearly and if you are in a quiet surrounding it will be heard by others if you do have the volume much above 25%. which is not an issue really. The battery life is great, have and them going for near enough 10 hours straight. if I had to pick faults it would be only that if wearing for long periods of time, 4+ hours the top of your ears can become a wee bit sore, but minimal and soon goes away once you take the headphones off. Very good bit of kit and very happy with overall quality and feel.

5.0 out of 5 stars Pretty good - recommend for cycling 2 April 2014

These are pretty good. I found them easy to pair with my phone. Music quality is fine with good range. (I've had two other old (Nokia) pairs of Bluetooth headphones, these are the best so far). There's no hiss or other background noise. (But sound is not as good as standard iPhone ear pods, so if you're looking for top quality sound, these are not for you). The controls are at the back of the band on the bottom, so certainly not rain proof - these are for dry weather only. You can certainly hear other noises while these are playing music, so they enhance the safety (compared to normal earphones) for running or cycling. They fit fine under my bike helmet. I wear glasses too and these fit OK too. I like the physical on / off switch (you know for sure if they're on or off - no wondering if you've held button down for long enough to turn them on / off). I keep my phone in a ruck sack on my back and so Bluetooth connectivity is OK from there. With phone in trouser pockets there are occasional sound drop outs (which is normal in my experience for Bluetooth). If you're looking for wireless headphones for running or cycling in then go for these.

Not for motorcyclists. Can't hear anything over 40 mph. Too painful to wear under Arai helmet. Sound leakage too high for public places. Seller too anal re Seller Feedback.

1.0 out of 5 stars Not water resistant - useless for sports. Died on the second use.
The sound quality is ok, but the lack of water resistance make them useless for sports. Avoid unless you plan to use in dry conditions and never sweat.
