The story is ok ish. Characters were ok and the storyline isn't enthralling. Why we have to wait for aftershock to continue the story Is just another money making scam. Sylvia did this with crossfire and now this one. I really hope this inst going to become the norm. If Afterburn and Aftershock were one book I may have rated it higher.

I don't like giving low review scores as everyone has personal tastes, but I really feel this dividing up of books is getting daft. I've just read the Kindle version of Afterburn (I held off reading it until Aftershock came out). It's a novella, not a novel, and far too short. The whole short 'story' never really gets going and then ends with a damp squib. I've just started on Aftershock as I got them both at the same time, but my patience has run out on books that are cut in half for marketing reasons. From now on I'm going to avoid all books that follow this format and I'll be careful to note the number of pages.
Also, regarding one scene, I find it disturbing that it's somehow all right for a female to physically slap a man who isn't threatening her in any way, but we'd all be shocked if the male slapped the woman. Double standards?

My first sylvia day experience was with the crossfire series and I loved her style of writing then. I am slowly and surely working my way through all of her novels.

This one is part of a mills and boon series and who doesn't all enjoy a mills and boon - whether you admit it or not. Lol

I spent my teenage years reading mills and boon but afterburn definitely has a more grown up feel to it.

I really do wish this novel had been longer and aftershock wasn't so far away. I felt as though we had only scraped the surface of the main characters Jax and Gia. I feel these characters have so much more to give and I'm positive they will.

I have a feeling this may be a trilogy again though, I love book series as I love to see how the characters develop I don't however, like being left in suspense with weeks or months to find out what happens next. I'm just inpatient I suppose.

Sylvia Day is one of those authors who captures you and no matter what she writes I have confidence it's going to be spectacular.

This book was everything I've come to love about Sylvia Day, sharp dialogue, likable characters, scorching hot romance and sexual tension.
I really enjoyed what I read but I also found the book incredibly frustrating.

I read this book in about two hours and it wasn't because I couldn't put it down, it was because it is really short and the story is just left hanging in mid-air when it ends. I know this will be because the second part of the story - Aftershock - is released in November and it'll all be completed then but it's annoying to have to wait like that, not for a continuation of a story via another book (for example her Crossfire series) but for what is the second half of the same story! It would have been alot better (and more enjoyable) if Afterburn and Aftershock were once release.

So, I'd recommend it for fans of erotically charged romance but I'd recommend people wait until the release of Aftershock and read them together so they don't have to endure the annoying wait.

This is book one of two in a new short series by Sylvia Day. With the disappointment of Entwined With You behind me, I decided to give this a chance, and am delighted I did - it was great!

Gianna Rossi is the only girl in an Italian family-run restaurant, and has become assistant administrator to a very famous New York restaurateur.

Jackson (Jax) Rutledge is a senator's son and former fling of Gianna's (or Gia, as he loves to call her).

Gianna and Jackson meet two years after their fling through work related circumstances, and sparks fly. The chemistry between them is palpable, and they quickly resume where they left off. But Gianna has lots of questions that Jackson won't answer, and rightly feels nervous that if and when Jackson bolts again, she'll be left picking up the pieces of her broken heart, again.

This book is short, but I knew that before I bought it, so I'm not going to let that affect it's rating!

I absolutely loved the crossfire books and was looking forward to hopefully another well written, steamy novel....to say I was disappointed would be an understatement.
I didn't like the characters, they didn't draw me in and make me love/loathe them, the story was dull and I was thoroughly bored at times during this book.
There is no "action" (wink wink) until approx 52% into the book and the next 48% has little to offer.
I enjoy reading all genres of books, but as a saucy book - this is decidedly lacking, and suffice to say I won't be reserving the next book, and be eagerly awaiting its arrival like I did with entwined with you (that was a let down too!)
To be honest perhaps ms day would be better off concentrating on one series at a time rather that knocking out weak stories...after I have finished the crossfire books I won't be spending another penny on her books x

I have read a lot of Sylvia Days books I enjoyed this book and fell in love with yet another book boyfriend but i felt it was rushed a little and no much time was given to understand Gia or Jax now dont get me wrong SD has you with this book and the characters more or less straight away and I love the dynamics of the Rossi Family but I felt it moved too quickly to the bulk of it and it was too short

that said i have pre ordered the sequel as i HAVE to know what happens and for that reason you have to read the book and decide for yourself if we have a new couple of the block
