About the Author

The author of ‘Marine Cadet’, the #1 bestselling space opera novel, and the Human Legion series, Tim C. Taylor lives with his family in an old village in England called Bromham. When he was a young and impressionable lad, between 1977 and 1978, several important things happened to him all at once: 2000AD, Star Wars, Blake's 7, and Dungeons & Dragons. Consequently, he now writes science fiction novels for a living.

I should think that everyone who comes to the end of several years in military service suddenly finds themselves as a different person in a different world. We have to learn to live again amongst family and friends and adapt to all sorts of what are now strange work situations. I know from experience how difficult it can be. Now to try and imagine what it must be like for marines from the Human Legion, who have never known home and family except their army colleagues, it is beyond me. Mr Taylor has tried to highlight and answer some of the problems, but has also thrown in the question of what to do with the troops when the war is over in a galactic environment. Just to spice it up a bit the Human Legion marines are allocated space on a planet alongside members of the many Alien groups that the Human Legion absorbed during its conquests. Inhabiting this planet without any overseeing power or government is asking for trouble, but I will leave you to work this out for yourselves. The Author continues to write his stories with many quirky events and a smattering of humour. In this series he describes the exploits of an ancient ex-marine as he tries to come to terms with life after demobilisation; how does he fit in, who can he trust, he was born to fight and he has lots of fighting to do. We have left the big galactic battles behind but life is never going to be easy so expect a few skirmishes. The story moves along at some pace and is very well written. I was particularly pleased that TCT has written his story in the first person this time which makes you feel that you are there experiencing the problems yourself. I consider that this is Mr Taylor’s best book so far and is well worth my 5* rating.

NJ is a mess, with his deceased squad in his head and the trauma of his previous life to cope with all he wants is to be left alone. The arrival of Silky, a mysterious alien, signals the beginning of NJ's return to life.
I like Mr Taylor's depiction of an ex-soldier left to his own devices after the horrors of war. NJ felt very real, though his ghosts are actually part of him rather than just in his imagination. The story is occasionally baffling but everything becomes clear in the end. A thrill ride of a story that I thoroughly enjoyed, this book has introduced me to a new author who I will be reading more from.

I actually received this book as an Advance Reader Copy and found that the first chapters were great and then it hits a slump. But after getting past that next bit I found the whole book really enjoyable.
I would recommend this book to fans of The Human Legion series.
