If it's music you're after, there's no place like Dakar, a city teeming with young musicians boasting equal measures of talent and attitude. Welcome to the next generation - Generation Boul Fale ! "Drums that don't stop-and-they-don't stop and a profusion of voices that convey resoluteness, spirituality, spunk, moralism, humor and personality." Top Customer Reviews

Format: Audio CD Verified Purchase
Break-neck sabar and tama beats, cheesy keyboards, riffing electric guitars, all topped off by wailing Islamic tinged vocals.
If you've tried Youssou N'dour and Baaba Maal you might like this.
It's got some great tracks: Fallou Dieng, Assane Mboup and Alioune Kasse have a very similar vocal style to Youssou.
Stand out tracks:
Bada Seck and with that hard edged female vocalist.
The wonderfully boppy, almost reggae style of Mathy Thiam Dogo.
Fatou Guewel has a brilliantly traditional sound that whips to a climax with her piercing voice. She has a CD available on Sterns which is worth checking out.
The other vocal style is Thione Seck's floating arabic and indian influenced beauty. Assane Ndiaye and Ousmane Seck follow his style.
Great unwesternised and not over produced sound.

HASH(0x9ba9193c) out of 5 stars Brilliant - takes you right to Dakar 25 Aug. 1999
By A Customer - Published on Amazon.com
Format: Audio CD
This disc contains some of the hottest mbalax around - which makes it some of the best dance music, period. These young Senegalese artsits have recorded truly irresistible music. One of the gems on the album is Bada Seck's "Nguewel," sung in a style called taassou - traditional Senegalese rap. Once you hear it, you'll understand why the Senegalese have taken to hip-hip so well, and why hip-hop sounds so perfect in Wolof.
