Product Description

Manufacturer's Description

This new route for Microsoft Train Simulator lets the PC train driver control a train on the historic and beautiful Swanage Route in the county of Dorset. The route covers the former LSWR branch from Wareham to Swanage which the Loco driver can discover with four new drivable steam and Diesel engines.

Today the southern half of the route, between Swanage and Norden, is the preserved Swanage Railway, while the northern section, as far south as Furzebrook, is part of the National Rail network and serves an LPG terminal. The route has been modelled as it is today, but with the two sections of line joined together to allow through running from Swanage to Wareham. In addition to the branch, the Swanage Route also includes 5 miles of main line towards Poole and Bournemouth. The add-on comes with over 30 very accurately designed stations and request stops and gives a real example of the charm of the landscape and its typical buildings and towns in this part of the country.

A Preserved Railway in Southern England.

I got this simulator about 2 months ago and havent stopped playing on it since. It is fantastic.

It includes the preserved part of the line between Swanage and Norden and also and extra 3 miles of line before joining the mainline at Worting Junction. The next station is wareham followed by Holton heath which is the end of the line for this fantastic simulation.

It has realistic noises such as Cockerels, Church bells, car engines and a man trying to start his tractor. Also in the scenery is a man taking his cows to milk , and you can also see Corfe Castle on the hill.

The locomotives are as follows:

34028 'Eddystone' West Country class Pacific

35027 'Port Line' Merchant Navy class Pacific

30053 M7 Class tank

Class 108 DMU

Three non - driveable locomotives are:

Battle of Britain Class

Standard class 4 tank

Class 60 Diesel

The cabs are excently detailed with fully functional controls and levers.

Overall the best add-on yet!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

You would think that a four year old add-on like this would be dated by now because there are many newer add-ons which feature better detail than older ones. You would, however, be very wrong indeed.

Swanage Route is among the very best MSTS add-ons. The level of detail is very high indeed, you can hear cockerels, church bells and when your train goes across a river you can hear the sound of the water. There are people waiting and talking on the platform and working on the line too (yes, PEOPLE) and you can see Corfe Castle on the hill. Trains are very realistic with great sounds, cabs and passenger views. These trains include two steam locomotives with tenders, a tank engine and an old 1st generation DMU. One disappointing thing is there are a few trains that you can't drive, in most add-ons you can drive all the stock. But other than that this add-on is excellent and I recommend it to all MSTS fans. I rate this add-on 99% out of 100%

This has to be one of my favourite add ons for MSTS.

Firstly the scenery is spot on. Realistic stations, buildings, and other scenery objects have been recreated to a very high standard, all locations are very recogniseable to the real thing. The journey takes you from the coastal town of Swanage all the way to Norden. This part of the route forms todays preserved Swanage Railway. To add variety the route continues through furzebrook, into Wareham and finally Holton Heath and the route terminates shortly after. The reason for this is to give maximum variety in activities, not only do you get modern day activities for the preserved section of the line, but you also have in the future activities, when the line is fully running their own steam locos to Wareham and beyond, and also past activities, set in the 50's/60's. A good range of activities is included from freight to passenger.

The rolling stock is to a very high standard too, with quite a few driveable locos to choose from. The sounds for the models are some of the best for MSTS, as are sounds from the surrounding villages, farms and small industries.

An add on that every MSTS user should have. And is even better if you get hold of the Swanage bonus pack which includes more driveable locos, and many more activities.

A Kid's Review on 18 Jun. 2009
This is very good, very detailed, very realistic, but it does not have many locomotives. At all. It has got 4. Good for people who just like the view, not so good for people who want to havwe loads of locos. You will be better off getting the Seven Valley really.
