I use this method with all my pupils and find it works very well indeed. The accompanying CDs are very useful as are the many duets for the teacher to join with the pupil to give a more satisfying musical experience.
This brings me on to why it is not good for teachers.
The 'clear visual method' is basically large crotchet shapes, about an inch high, which aren't placed on a stave but dotted around the page in a graphic score pattern; notes at the top of the page represent higher pitch etc. Students are expected to play from this. I find this odd because I think beginners should start on a stave from the outset. And a good teacher will be able to guide their students through this.
Ergo, if you want to teach yourself this book will be really helpful and a good place to start. The teacher will find it more of a hindrance than a useful starting tool.
