I have to agree with all of the other reviews. This should be a brilliant app, but it runs so slowly and crashes so often it becomes frustrating and untrustworthy. It reminds me of the early days of Pinnacle Studio when you would spend hours creating your masterpiece only for it to crash and wipe out all of your hard work. Elements does not let you get this far. Clicking on any of the edit functions seems to slow the software down to a crawl or even stop responding. You cannot work with this on any level. It sounds great in the adverts but you can never get it to work long enough to see all the bells and whistles. The only way you can get any speed is to load it onto a clean OS install, then disconnect from the web and shut off every running process possible, firewall, antivirus etc.. Then I can get some speed and stability, but that's no use for everyone, it would mean a PC dedicated to one application, (ok if you have a spare fast PC). But it does not advise that on the box. So spare your heart and buy something else, Corel or Pinnacle for example, but not this application.

I can only reiterate the comments made by Slim. I have been using Elements since Version 1 without any problems but cannot run them on Windows 7, hence the purchase of Version 9. I have now given up with 9 and will work with version 4 on my old XP machine. Incidentally, Customer Services are no help. They just ignore your complaints. Don't throw you money away on this junk.

The title says it all. I have now uninstalled this software as it is just totally unusable. My pc runs windows vista 64 bit with a quad core processor on 8GB of RAM and the software still runs like treacle...very, very slowly indeed. The interface is turgid and just not what i would have expected from an upgrade. For gods sake save your money as Adobe don't desreve to get it for this software.

17/12/2010 Additional. If you are fed up with constant crashes, terminally slow software and all the things which PE9 has then try Magix Movie Edit Pro 17 plus HD..! It is like a breath of fresh air. It runs smoothly with no crashes and appears to be a very good video editor and DVD/Blu-Ray producer. Cheers Slim.

I wish I could give a full review to this software, but no matter how I try, it would seem that this software will not play nice with my machine (running Windows Vista on a Dell desktop 2.6 Ghz quad-core with 4 Gig of Ram). While the Organizer portion of it seems to work fine, and imported all my pictures and videos without problem (took 30 minutes, but I do have over 300 video clips to import), the video editor simply would not work. Opening a file from the Organizer to edit should have, per its on-screen popup, placed the clip at the end of the timeline, but no matter what project options I set (for various modes of AVCHD, HD, etc), nothing ever showed up in the editor, and all editor functions remained grayed out (including the Import function). Playing a particular clip worked ok for video, but the audio channel remained silent.

In addition, I had several cases of the program crashing completely, and when I tried to create an Adobe ID so I could access on-line help, the Create button remained stubbornly inactive, even though I was sure I had all fields filled out appropriately. Also an annoyance was that the Adobe ID creation screen asked for my birth date. What possible relevance or need is there for Adobe to have this information?

I would really like to see what this software can really do; looking over the listed functions in the various screens makes it look like this could be a very good and powerful package for the price, but as it stands, I'll chalk this one up as "doesn't work, not worth any more of my time trying to make it work".

Elements 4, not to bad, Elements 8, some problems, Elements 9 Adobe Premiere Elements 9 (PC/Mac), someone tell Adobe their products are supposed to improve as they progress to a higher level, not take a steep nose dive!!

I am currently using version 4 for all my video editing, which is fine if you are editing in SD. Problems start if you want to edit in HD. The preview is very jerky and disjointed when capturing from HD camcorder and sometimes there is no preview at all. When eventally on the time line, things can run quite slow. Hence the reason I decided to try version 9. With the Trial version of Elements 9, there is no preview picture or sound while downloading from HD camcorder and the program will sometimes freeze. Once you manage to get some footage on the timeline however, it does run a lot smoother in V9 than in V8, at least it does when you have been into Task Manager and stopped the blasted Auto-Analyser from running!

I have now removed the trial version and will stay with V8 until such time as Adobe start to give some consideration to people like us and produce a version that actually works in all departments and is worth spending our hard earned cash on. Perhaps it was in a dream, but I seem to recall that Adobe was once considered to be top notch when it came to video editing software, or perhaps that only applies if you have got a few thousand to spend and you are a big professional production company.

Bottom line is, if you have got money to throw away, then give it to a deserving charity and not Adobe!!
