"Photoshop for the rest of us" basically. Great product for anyone who is semi-serious about photography and who doesn't want to spend £600 on Photoshop CS4.

Compatible with Mac OS X v10.4.11 through 10.5.8 or Mac OS X v10.6 (Snow Leopard) so ignore the naïve reviews from people who don't know how to research properly and who don't actually own the software and have given low marks.

I'm a graphic designer (who mainly uses Photoshop) and therefore arrogant and skilled enough to back up my opinion.

Five stars.

The Apple mac computers have excellent graphics but the editing capabilities of iPhoto software is very limited.
Elements 8 now provides all the editing faciities for most photographers and at a reasonable price.

I've just switched from PC to Mac so just to make sure I downloaded the trial version and used it for a month before buying this and I'm glad I did as the price has dropped significantly. Be assured that it's perfectly compatible with OS X vs 10.6. Previously I'd been using the original Photoshop CS but this does all I want and much more. It's come down another fiver since I ordered mine so this is a real bargain!

Having purchased PSE 6 for the Mac a year or so ago I was expecting a little more from PSE 8. hence the 3 stars, had it been more than a service pack upgrade with just a handful of new features, some of which can be replicated with a little extra work without using the menu option it would have scored it as 4 or 5.

The interface and been modified slightly with the undo arrows being more to the top right of the screen from the top left (Note not in the right place for most right-handed users). A few new features have been added, which in my mind do not justify the 6 to 8 revision. On my 2.4Ghz Unibody MacBook although its slightly faster in loading, its very slower in operation. Not at all happy with the levels window now being in the right-hand pane and not free floating as in 6. And integration with iPhoto is not 100%, click to edit can be set to load PSE, but saving back does not always appear to work in modifying the iPhoto thumbnail, (but that was the same in 6).

Not a bad price, and if your moving up from a version lower than 6 I would say work the purchase, but if you have PSE 6 I don't think its worth the upgrade. Like but most software houses Adobe seems to issue annual revisions (needed or not, the Mac skipped PSE 7 and the changes are very slight, for Windows users I would say if you have PSE 7 don't purchase.

Brilliant just brilliant made more so because mac users get a full copy of adobe bridge pc users don't ha!; I am new to it so far though but love it. I did buy also the book called "the missing manual" which I could not do with out, much thicker than I expected when it arrived over 500 pages but so written and which anyone can read and understand so I do recommend this also - sorry.

As someone who has to use both Mac OS X and Windows I find that Adobe Photoshop Elements 8 being available for both platforms makes things a whole lot easier when switching from one to the other. Working on files from a central server makes it the best. I highly recommend it.

A cursory browse of reviews or Adobe's advert gave me the impression of Elements being something with just a little extra over the likes of an image editor supplied with iphoto, but on impulse I bought it anyways. I am impressed with the range of tools it possesses. For example, a hue-saturation-value editor, available also iphoto, can target not just the whole photo, but any portion you chose, or any band of colours you choose. With layers, blending modes, transparancy you have what seems to me total control (though surely the full Photoshop must have more!). You can lift portions of a photo off for separate correction and layer it back on. I had an old photo of a school friend where I had focussed on the background behind him. With Elememnts I could cut him out and apply a sharpening filter and overlay it back leaving the background unprocessed.

I guess my point is that Elements is feature-rich and not just basic editor. A lot of Adobe's advertising or independent reviews seem to promote features of the new version only or differences between 7 and 8. I wish I had bought this years ago!
