This series of commentaries is justly popular. This volume continues the style (a short passage, a homely analogy, often relating to wholesome activity in the mountains, some historically-informed interpretation, and a brief application) This format makes the series ideal for daily readings. All of this holds good for this volume, except that the commentary is significantly longer than in other volumes. So, if you are aiming to read a passage a day, better make sure you clear a bit more time. The upside is that the commentary is really powerful. As well as a very full exposition of the passage, Wright conveys a real excitement at the story of the unfolding Kingdom in action. It would be hard not to be moved and energised by this book, which I really recommend as the best I have read in a generally excellent series.

I found this book very interesting indeed, but hard going as the chapters were very long and detailed, and I could not keep up with our weekly Bible sharing group. However, the friend to whom I gave it finds it invaluable, and I have benefited from her reading of it at our meetings. So, if you are a quick reader, or have plenty of time, this is the book for you.

Tom Wright is a talented scholar and an inspired Christian writer. I have no hesitation, whatsoever, in recommening this book to anyone seeking to understand how the Acts of the Apostles is such a foundational work.

Written in clear every day language and printed in a clear modern font, this is a commentary that provides useful insights into the early church. It's very easy to read and sometimes very difficult to put down! Interspersed with Tom Wright's personal comments it's very easy to pick up what the early church did and did not do that enabled the church to grow quickly and exponentially.
Highly recommended and highly enjoyable.

I use Tom Wright's commentaries a lot in my sermon research. It helps that he not only explains the Biblical text in terms of its own time but also includes something up-to-date to show it is relevant today.

This author is always thought-provoking as he is a pretty learnedscholar who lets the text and the original language speak for itself, but is able to express things in an uncomplicated way easy to take in. I like the fact that he translates from the Greek himself, so sometimes the unfamiliarity makes you pay new attention to a known passage. Each chunk of scripture is followed by his thoughts, and the chunks are the right size to read just one or two at a time if you are busy rather than put it off till you have more time
