A Great book and well set out. It is easy reading with many simple and practical idea. My wife says 'why are you scared to teach children'. This little book takes away some of the fear for someone more used to and comfortable with teaching adults and university students! Yes like many in ESL I have been asked to teach children so this book is part of my new kit bag along with the Cambridge Copy Collection 'Primary Communication Box'.

This book is great. I got it the beginning of the school year and have used it just about every week. I am an EFL teacher with students aged between 4 and 12 and there's something in here for all of them. I've used it for games, great little chants for routines, ideas on how to get more out of storytelling, writing poems etc etc. It's great for topic work -just look up in the index (eg 'food' or 'animals' ) and there's lots of different activities. For adults, the 700 classroom activities in this same series is just as good!

This is a really in-depth and well presented book. It is divided into 4 sections to cover the 4 skills, reading, writing, listening and speaking. I am teaching various classes covering ages 3 - 8, and have found these games very useful indeed. Just the fact that it contains 500 activities makes it a bargain, you will easily find 50 ideas to use immediately, and that's just for starters! Would really recommend this most highly.

Carol Read has written a great book for pre- and in-service EFL teachers in the primary classroom. In 10 sections/chapters on Listening and Speaking; Reading and Writing; Vocabulary and Grammar; Storytelling and Drama; Games; Rhymes, Chants and Songs; Art and Craft; Content-based learning; ICT and multimedia; Learning to learn, Carol has reflected the key areas in primary language teaching. Each section gives an overview of methodological issues related to the topic and invites you to reflect, analyze and evaluate the teaching and learning.
I am going to use the book as a reader in a teacher training course for pre-service primary school educators since, amongst many other things, it suggests great ideas for creating optimal learning conditions for children, ways to manage children positively and it asks my trainees to reflect, analyze and evaluate.

This book is brilliant and packed with plenty of ready-made lesson plans as well as the pros and cons of each kind of activity. Each chapter is also clearly divided into skills, like "reading & writing" or "speaking & listening", etc. It also includes chapters on Content-Based Learning (CLIL), ICT and Learning how to Learn. This really is a valuable tool for anyone teaching children!
