The second book in the Acts of Honor series, An Act of Salvation can only be described as the glorious creation of an author at the top of her game.
The story brings back some characters that you will have already come into contact with if you have read book one but don’t panic, it is not essential, this is perfectly placed to stand its own ground.
Katelyn Slade had the sort of upbringing that will bring you to tears, Oh, did I forget to mention that you will need a rather large stock of tissues, sorry I should have laid that out at the very start of this review because I guarantee you will be crying ugly way before you get half way!
Her folks set my teeth on edge and had the palms of my hands twitching – I was so angry I think I could have been slowly edging towards hyperventilating, really they were despicable.
But Katelyn didn’t suffer alone, her brother Kolan was another victim of their parent’s cruelty but when he had managed to garner enough money he took what mattered most to him, his sister and headed to North Carolina. With family nearby, they set about finding the life they know they should have, their own normal.
Katelyn finally achieves everything she had wanted when she opens her own salon but when Kalon is subject to accusations that she knows are completely unfounded and disappears, it is Katelyn’s turn to repay the faith that Kolan has all those years ago when he got them out of Montana, she has to find out what is going on but she can’t do it on her own.Read more ›
Katelyn along with her older brother Kolan grew up in a neglectful and abusive household, but not only did they have each other to turn to for comfort and understanding, they had their friend Nick Stone, who was a kindred spirit and was also a little broken from his past.
As they grew up, Katelyn and Nick felt a pull towards each other and this culminated in a night of passion when they were in their late teens, the night before Nick left for his FBI training.
Years later, Katelyn has never forgotten Nick, nor the way he left her so abruptly, but when her brother goes missing after being accused of a heinous crime, she turns to the only other man she ever trusted to help her.
For me, this was a nice easy read, I found it very sweet and cutesy. It was a fabulously endearing second chance romance. Katelyn was very sassy and an all round decent character, and Nick was your typical KC Lynn, sexy alpha.
Personally, I can't wait to get to Kolan's book so maybe that's why I was left feeling like An Act of Salvation was a lead up, rather than a story in it's own right. A lot of the events that took place were involving Katelyn's brother, and although her and Nick were the the focal point of this story, they were heavily involved in solving the mystery Kolan's disappearance.
All in all, it was an enjoyable read.
I went into an Act of Salvation not really knowing what to expect. I read little bits and pieces from KC’s Facebook page, but that didn’t give too much away. I didn’t know what to expect of Katelyn, mainly because I wasn’t sure if I liked her character very much. But, reading this book definitely changed my feeling about her! I love Katelyn so much. Reading about her past life… I didn't think it would actually hurt to read but it did. It was like I felt everything she felt. What her and her brother, Kolan, went through was heartbreaking to read. I also felt angry. I wanted to jump in the book to beat their dad up…
I loved that I learnt more about Kolan in this story. Although it’s made me more impatient than I already was for his and Sophie’s book… I’m excited to learn more, and get a feel of how Kolan projects the world. I’ve never been so excited for a book. I’m excited for all of KC’s future books to come, but this one feels different. I’m glad these characters aren't actually real, because I’d probably crap myself if I saw Kolan… He’s one scary guy. Also sexy but scary! I think thats another reason I’m looking forward to reading his book. To know he’s more than just someone who everybody is afraid of. From the way he acts with Katelyn, you know he has a massive heart.
Nick… I knew I’d like him, but jeez! I love him now too. I love how possessive and protective he is. He’s also frustrating… Him and Katelyn are adorable. I love how sassy she is and drives him crazy. Learning more about Nick and his mother… I cried. I couldn’t even imagine putting myself in either of their position.Read more ›
