Anyway back to my experience, I find her very zippy runs around the web with speed I can play games on Facebook, I love how all the security etc is inbuilt so no annoying reminders to do this & that to run the laptop well, the updates are brill take about 30 to 60 seconds & it is done, simple.
I charge her for a little over an hour & get my full battery usage, I went for this as I HATE Windows and finding a different operating system was proving very hard so went for this & have never looked back. When the time comes for me to replace her I will be getting another Chromebook just maybe with a touchscreen. I honestly cannot praise this enough. I know some will find Chrome to be limiting for apps/programmes like Photoshop but I don't use those so it is not a loss to me I also like the document options it has to offer. My hubby has been impressed with how I have never moaned about my laptop he is even planning on having a cheap older laptop to run Photoshop then having a Chromebook for everything else this really is that reliable. I do look after my things but I've never dropped this or used it in the kitchen but has had constant daily use for four years, I am still surprised I've had this for that long it feels a lot shorter. Great quality at an affordable price, it is nice having peace of mind.
How wrong I was!
Whilst the Macbook is great for video editing, in practically every other context that I use it, the Chromebook is superior. Where the Macbook is laggy and often unresponsive browsing the web, the Acer flies. Where the Macbook often takes ages to boot, the Chromebook boots in seconds. Where, the Macbook regularly crashes (damn that beach ball!), the Chromebook is crash-free. Where updating the Mac's OS takes ages, the Chromebook regularly updates in seconds.
And don't even get me started on the joy of using Google Drive and Google Docs with the Chromebook. I don't use Word anymore. Neither do I worry about storing important files on USB stick and hard disks.
What's more, I had thought that the Macbook would be ideal for rudimentary music recording. However, a recent Apple OS update ensured that the Macbook no longer works with my USB microphone. Not so the Chromebook, which doesn't need external drivers to access microphone. It just works. What's more the web app, 'Soundtrap' does much of what Garage Band does for free.
Clearly, if web apps are not going to do it for you, you need something more substantial than a Chromebook. However, if you can live with them, this is an absolutely brilliant laptop. And it's going to get even better when the Android App Store is available to it later in the year.
The Acer is a Chromebook 11. It has a funky all-white design that feels extremely light and can easily be carried in a bag. The plastic casing is no more cheap-feeling than the old Macbooks and the screen is clear and bright. It really does boot up in seconds (in fact you don't need to turn it off ever in which case it opens almost immediately where you left off). The battery has now lasted me two full days of work and play and it's still saying 6 hours left.
There's not much else to say apart from if you're familiar with Chrome and Google's online products, you'll be able to make the most of this. I am also using it for work and they have Microsoft everything, and the online versions of Word and Excel work fine (and they're free!). Don't hesitate. At the cost of a small mid-range phone this is a complete bargain and can make you very productive very quickly.
