When looking for a laptop you have to know exactly what you will be using it for as the price can vary considerably. So in my case I was looking for a laptop which I could take to work to surf the internet and when at home connect to my flat screen TV to play blu-ray discs, while keeping the cost down. I can go into great detail about specifications on laptops but to keep things simple most laptops come with 3GB or more and at least a 250GB hard drive so this is not something I need to look at closely. The important thing is the processor speed (minimum 2Ghz), graphics card (dedicated 256mb or better 512mb) and of course the blu-ray drive.

I looked at a number of laptops specifically at the graphics card, as even though I wouldn't be playing any games it would be a factor in the general running of the laptop, which made it important. Which is why I chose this laptop and I was not disapointed. I would recommend to anyone wanting a laptop, as it not only does everything I require, it also is good enough to play even the latest games at high resolution. So if you want to keep the price down and save your hard earned money, and know that you have got a bargin, look no further.

For the person to rate this laptop one star is completely unfair!!!!
I recieved the laptop and opened it straight away and was amazed at how nice it looked for the price.
Of course the specs of this arent gonna be top notch but for what you pay id like to see you get anything as cheap as this.
webcam is 0.3 but still provides good enough quality to my standard.
finger print reader is a gucci add on and a good one.
keyboard has a nice finish to it and button response. theres also nothing wrong at all with the integrated mouse either.
the fact this includes a blu-ray player is a fact you cant ignore. also with the hdmi out slot for the tv its was a done deal for me.
the dolby home theater produces very impressive sound quality considering its a laptop.
thought id use it for a couple of days before i rated it and i have to say i think ive got a hell of a deal!! i spent a lot of time looking around and nothing from other makes really comes close to the spec or the finshing quality of this laptop. i would fully recommend this laptop to any of my friends.

Have had this laptop since early 2009. On the positive side the processor is good, and still better in terms of GHz than some of the PCs around today at 300 pounds-ish.
On the negative side, there are major issues with the fan, and since the early days of buying it, it overheated. It's impossible to use on the lap. Even off-lap it overheats, and you need an external fan.
Another issue is the cabling which is in the laptop hinge. This can be affected, and if so this will cause the monitor to scramble-up on you, unless you tilt the laptop. After opening up inside the hinge, moving the wires can circumvent this - I removed some screws to keep this accessible all the time. It was a strange one, as you might think it was video graphic issue, but it is the placement of the cable.
The battery died very quickly - after 1 year or so of use - unless the PC guy (who looked at the screen issue) swapped the battery and didn't tell me?...
Factory restore is nice and durable, usually after one or two months I have to factory restore - I presume this is an issue with Vista and security holes when you use for heavy downloading.Vista takes circa 1 day and a half to get all updates - it will say "no more updates" when it still needs to get updates for Service Packs and beyond, so you need to keep checking until you get past it. As the factory restore brings you the 1 month trial of Office - Word, Powerpoint 2007, etc, this can be useful at times.

I also found a keylogger file inside the C: drive which re-emerges every time I factory restore (there is a dedicated small partition for recovery, as long as you burn the disks). I don't know if this was on the machine originally, or if it is a false positive, but it is there, all the same, associated with the recovery partition.

I bought this laptop June 2009 and the motherboard overheated June 2010 (only one year!) even though I kept it well ventilated. Luckily it was just still just inside the warranty period so Acer replaced the motherboard though it took them about a month! When I got it back, a couple of weeks later it overheated again and this time since I was outside the warranty period Acer tried to charge me £160-ish even though I was told it was under a 3 months warranty from date of repair AND it was the motherboard that blew again! This time I'm taking no chances and have put it up for sale while it still works. So many features for so a low price? Somethings had to give and in this case it's reliability. Back to desktops for me.

So how did it perform considering the pretty decent spec (Dual Core/4GB of RAM...not bad)...unfortunately quite poorly. I thought this would have no problem handling anything I throw at it bar some high spec games but instead it was slow and sluggish and kept momentarily freezing. Really drove me nuts. It's no longer being sold and I don't think there's a replacement model out. It should've been a decent buy but this experiance has put me off Acer probably for good.
