"Thank you for your e-mail regarding your ABUS lock and we are sorry to hear that you have had an unfortunate experience with this product.
A key which has snapped in a lock is usually the result of not fully inserting the key into the locking mechanism and is seen by ABUS as user error and not a manufacturing defect.
If the key is not fully inserted into the lock barrel before you try to open the lock, the barrel will start to turn but the lock will not open. If more force is then applied to the key it can result in the key snapping.
If the key is fully inserted into the lock barrel and the lock barrel is seized the amount of force needed to snap the key is very excessive. If you snap the key you should be left with enough key sticking out so that it might be removed with a pair of pointy nosed pliers.
If you are left with a piece of key stuck inside the lock then it is clear that the key was not fully inserted when it snapped. For this reason it is doubtful that your retailer would be willing to replace the lock and reimburse you for your costs. However any claim regarding warranty or compensation should be directed to the shop from which it was originally purchased
The only way to remove your lock would be to use an angle grinder.
Unfortunately we are unable to assist you further with your query.

I'd give it 9/10!
The key is definitely the lock's "weakest link" and since ABUS will pass it off as a user error, and will therefore take no responsibility what so ever, I would NOT recommend this lock!!
Lots of spare keys. Never oiled it but it still unlocks/locks easily. Outer casing has never frayed. It is heavy, but not ridiculous, and it's really flexible so never had any problems attaching it to things. Very highly recommended, I've got lots of bikey friends and never seen anyone with a lock that I thought seemed superior.
The chain is quite heavy, but that's not an issue for me as I'll be carrying it in a rucksack when cycling. It also gives the impression that it's extremely sturdy & strong.
As most thieves are opportunists who will take the easiest option available, they will more than likely look elsewhere when my bike is locked with one of these & the Abus Granit X-Plus I also purchased.
Highly recommend the product & the seller.

I brought this to chain up my £3200 bike and found on several occasions people trying to break it without success. Highly recommended to anyone who wants to keep their bike safe.Published 13 months ago by Mr. A. W. Bane
Easy to carry around and very solid feel.
I have used abus for years and all their products inspire confidence and deliver the goods.
Well worth it.
I had a kryptonite lock before this (it was in a bag that got stolen) and the rigid shape made locking the bike tougher as many objects were too wide. Read morePublished on 31 Jan. 2014 by Ceddy
Have had this lock nearly 2 years now, used outside to attach two bikes together which are stored under a tarp, so not very heavy use. Read morePublished on 26 Nov. 2013 by Dan V
Good chain, fairly thick and well made, folds away neatly and so is easy to transport. Just be wary of the short length of the chain which is only enough if you bike and/or... Read morePublished on 29 July 2013 by Just_your_regular_guy
I bought this lock thinking it was 'Silver rated' it's not - it's bronze. I wasn't gonna return it though because it is a GREAT lock at this price. Have no complaints at all.Published on 30 July 2012 by Ciaran McFall
