A different book from Anie Michaels this time around....I've been a huge fan since the Never series and I still remain so however it's always a risk when you write something completely different but I applaud her for doing so.
Evie is in love with Devon and Devon is in love with her best friend...Evie saw him first but despite this remained a loyal and trustworthy friend to Olivia and loved Devon from afar for years.
I had mixed feelings about both Devon and his wife Liv...I felt they were both selfish in their own way....Devon loved Olivia but had a connection with Evie however he didn't really want her but wanted to keep her around....Olivia I got the impression that maybe she was aware of this and perhaps used that situation because she needed Evie as much as the other way around.
After her friends death things become even harder and here starts Evie's journey of self discovery...one woman's fight to find herself...to find her true worth and to realise that she deserves to be first.
The story was stunning....the writing beautiful and yes I cried....Damn you!
An unexpected and satisfying conclusion to a 5 star read for me.....

I read this book in one sitting I couldn't put it down, but at times I did want to shake the main character Evelyn and say wake up and see what's happening in front of you. This story is of love from a distance and though it may be shared its not the love that will hold your future, we flick between the past and present giving us the insight to understand the relationship between the characters.

Evelyn (Evie) has lost her best friend and is struggling to move forward, she made a promise to her best friend Olivia that she would look after Devon, Ruby and Jaxy but that promise is hard to keep without causing herself more harm. I don't want to give the story away but when you think the story may go one direction the author pulls you in another, she does show us that we shouldn't accept being second best we all deserve to be first choice.

This book is a standalone but there will be more books on the other characters and I for one cannot wait.

Evie has been in love with her best friends husband for nine years admittedly she saw him first back in college but somehow he ended up with Olivia the BF, so Evie and Devon had only shared painfully intense longing glances all these years. This was such a lovely story and I was enthralled from the first page until the last this is the first book I have read from this author and I'm so glad that this is the one I chose and I can't wait to read the Presence Of Grace coming next.

I rarely write reviews but this book deserves it. I felt emotionally attached from the first page onwards.
I started rooting for them to have their chance till you just realise things aren't always going to happen the way you think it will. But thats the best part

I was gifted an ARC copy of this book via Give Me Books for an honest review.

Based on the blurb this book went in different way to what I was originally thinking, which made it a good plot twist. As the title suggest the absence of olivia tell the story of a husband and best friend trying to find their way in the world again after a death. It's a semi love triangle with Evelyn feeling guilty over lusting after her friends husband so steps in to try and fill the void let by her. Does it work ??? Shhh spoiler, you will have to read and find out.
Despite the somber subject I found this to be a lovely well thought out and well written book, thoughly enjoyed reading this!

When I read the blurb of this book, I jumped at the chance to read it. I did think how terrible of a person Evelyn must be, to be in love with her best friends husband, but once you get into the story you realise it isn't really like that, yes she loves him but it's a secret she keeps to herself and definitely would never do anything to hurt her best friend, even if it meant that ultimately she would lead a life without love.

I did end up loving Evie, even though I thought I wouldn't even like her. She was so sweet and my heart broke for her. She was the most selfless person ever, even though it meant that she was unhappy herself. She kept her dying best friends wish, not wanting to hurt her even though she was gone.

Devon was a bit of a tool in places and I wanted to give him a slap, but then I remembered that he was grieving for his wife so let him off a little bit.

This book was nothing like I expected and I love when I can't predict what will happen. The writing style was fab and I got lost in the journey that the author took me on.

I highly recommend this book and I will definitely be checking out other books by this author.

The Absence of Olivia

This story blew me away, each word, each emotion, each moment had a profound effect on me. This book is about second chances, second choices but it is not always as easy as that.

Olivia and Evie have been friends for a long time until sadly Olivia is no longer around leaving her husband and two children. Evie is there to support Devon and the two children Ruby & Jax. The bond between Evie and the kids is so sweet and yet heartbreaking at times.

Evie has been in love with Devon since forever. She found him first and yet when he started dating her best friend Olivia, she stayed on the sidelines.

Anie Michaels made me torn as to whether Olivia and Devon should find their way to each other. They have a love that has lasted 8 or so years but should Evie get into a relationship with her dead best friends husband? I was torn but I will not spoil the ending for you.

I did thoroughly enjoy this story and this story shows that second chances and second choices may not be a bad thing.
