This book was incredible and so very special, and to top it off it has a single dad which just suckers me right in.
I loved Guy and Jules they both had a back bone, both professional people and they had this great spark, neither are strangers to heartbreak and loss. But together they are so much stronger and happier.
Guy's children were adorable i loved Finn and Max.
Abruption is such a powerful and heartbreaking story filling you with emotion and at times making you feel raw to the bone, it touches on some hard hitting subjects but they are well written and captivating.
There are also some funny one liners within this book that have you laughing out loud, Jules's dad is a hoot.
This is a good read.
“If you work hard in silence, your success will be the noise.”
This was a book that will tug at your heart strings and contains two of the most adorable kids I have ever read about. There is nothing more rewarding than reading about a father that takes care of his kids and puts their lives before his own. Guy was a selfless father that you couldn’t help but fall in love with and this was his struggle to keep his family together while finding himself along the way.
“People spend most of their lives believing fair is getting what you deserve, when in reality, fair is merely getting what you can handle.”
Dr Guy Hunter thought he had it all, a beautiful wife and a beautiful baby. He was finally achieving the fruits of his labour and heading towards the career that he had dreamed and strived for, concentrating on the branch of medicine that he always felt had been his calling until it wasn’t. Fast forward four years and Guy is a struggling single father to two adorable children. He is still a doctor in a hospital but now his priorities have changed. It is all about the kids and one of them is very sick.
Jules is a paediatric nurse and adores her job, her happy go lucky attitude is a hit with the kids and lights up the solemnest of faces. But underneath her bright and bubbly personality is a woman dealing with a whole heap of hurt of her own but she never lets it affect her work or the kids that she strives to save. It is in paediatrics that Jules meets Guy and they don’t exactly hit it off at first.Read more ›

"Your life is like this tree, deeply rooted, with a solid foundation and countless branches linking your past throes with future dreams. Every tree faces inevitable storms and strong winds testing the strength of its roots. Branches break; new ones grow. It will flower and leaves will fall. And from your tree new life will emerge. In the end, though, with purpose and perseverance your tree will prevail, and each will be beautifully individual and uniquely different. A full circle of such."
Abruption is the latest stand-alone contemporary romance by authors Riley Mackenzie. I am a huge fan of these authors so reading this book was an absolute no-brainer for me. I am so glad that I did! This team of authors has written a deeply moving book about two shattered individuals and how they each help the other awaken from the stagnant stupor that was their life. It is one of those books that will make your heart ache and shatter only to piece you back together again. I loved it. My favorite book written by Riley Mackenzie to date!
I honestly don’t even know where to start with this review. I was so deeply affected. So, here’s a short synopsis:
Dr. Guy Hunter is a general surgeon who once had his life plan all set out. His life took an unexpected detour quite a few years ago and now he’s a single father of a young daughter and a son with special needs who is in constant need of medical attention. His life has certainly turned out to be a lot different that he could have ever imagined. Despite this, Guy is dedicated to his two children and will do anything for them. The last thing he expects (or even has time for) is a beautifully confident nurse who somehow wins the favor of his young son almost immediately.
Jules Chiappetti was also someone who had a life plan and was determined to pave her own way, make something of herself. Her life is derailed when an unexpected, life-altering tragedy occurs which eventually leads her to a career change and becoming a pediatric nurse. Jules is passionate about her job and this is what makes her a wonderful nurse. Despite her successful career and the fact that she has found a purpose helping children, Jules is broken. There is a piece of her that she feels can never be repaired. So, what happens when an over-confident doctor walks into her life shifting everything on its axis?
Both Guy and Jules are astounded at the depth of their attraction for each other, especially because their initial meeting didn’t go so great. Both haven’t felt anything in so long that they are a little taken aback. However, both are unable to deny the connection that they feel towards one another. Their relationship is a slow build. It’s beautifully and organically written. As the pair get closer, they both share their pasts, the ugliness of it and all. Jules works her way not only into Guy’s heart but into the hearts of his two young children. I loved how both of them slowly chipped away at the highly erected walls around the other’s heart showing each other a world full of passion, intimacy, care and love. Conquering their demons may not come easy but when darkness comes into the light love has a way of lighting the path to redemption and absolution.
Gah! This book hit me on so many fundamental levels. Did it ever! It figuratively punched me in the gut and moved me to tears. This book spoke to me as a woman, as a wife, as a mother AND as a mother of a special needs son. I absolutely loved how devoted Guy was to his two children. The sacrifices he made for them and the fact that he fought so hard to give them a life they deserved, especially when it came to his son, was nothing short of beautiful. Jules came into the picture and simply completed them. It may have been a rough and bumpy path for them to finally reach a place where they could relax and settle into each other, but from the start Jules and Guy knew they were fighting for something special and soul shattering. I can’t even explain in the right words how gorgeous this journey of healing and love was. Guy, Jules, Finny and Max have become etched onto my heart permanently.
This book truly is a journey that needs to be experienced without any preconceived notions. It is the story of two individuals who connect and learn to trust in what they share. It is about the beauty of finally having what you have longed for, fighting for it and experiencing the ride. It’s about letting go of the past and taking a chance on life.
One of my favorite parts of the book was Jules’ family. Her crazy family reminded me so much of my own. Everything from the huge Italian family get-togethers with an over-abundance of food to a father whose struggles with the English were hilarious!
All in all, Abruption is a heartbreakingly wonderful novel about two individuals who fight to move past their inner turmoil and overcome the pain from their pasts. My heart literally broke as light was shed on the pain from the past but there was also so much beauty in watching Guy and Jules overcome all their personal demons for the sake of love and a chance at forever. Filled with a fabulous cast of two adorable children who will capture your heart, doctors and nurses, a crazy Italian-American family that bring some hilarious dialogue into the mix, you can’t help but get completely enthralled and invested in this compelling story. It also doesn’t hurt that there are some scorching hot sexy times also. Whoot, whoot! I am absolutely in love and am already anxiously awaiting the next book written by this pair of authors.
You will need...

A minute... for your heart to become whole again
A minute... to cry

An absolute 5 star, one click, must read
Guy Hunter will easily make you “crazy about him” and become your next Book Crush
~ 5 ~ “We need a minute” ~ Stars
Everyone has a plan.
Dr. Guy Hunter had always known what he is going to do. The future was written in the stars but just like that the fates decided, he was going down another path. A safer path for him. I mean it's not every day your wife finds out she's pregnant with your second child within what seems like days from her delivering your first bundle of joy. When push came to shove and ultimatums were given he went with the only logical choice; the only choice he could make. He chose his family over his dreams.
My family or my career.
One that took absolutely no thought.
I just never dreamed that my wife would make me choose.
Four years later Guy has many challenges, being a single father is one of them. Being a single dad to a special needs child is his biggest challenge to date.
Abruption: a sudden breaking off.
When another visit to the ER has him locking horns with a new nurse. Not new to the ER but new to Guy.
Jules Chiappetti loves her job. She's especially drawn to children. She wants to be that one that makes a difference. I really loved her as the heroine.
She had never had the pleasure of going toe to toe with Guy. Let's just say that if their first meeting was any indication of the future, then this friendship was doomed.
I crossed my arms and shrugged. I owed him nothing, and I certainly wasn't going to coddle after his recent immature behavior towards me.
It seems the only one who has an issue with Jules is Guy. His son Finn has already formed a friendship with his new nurse.
Abruption: an unexpected event.
Guy doesn't know what it is about Jules that has him twisted in knots. He's got two kids to take care of. Many surgeries to perform. His life has no spare time to give, but he just can't stay away from her.
Jules is a mystery to everyone including her big boisterous Italian family. She's been going through the motions of living, not ever giving her heart away again. But then she is thrust into this family. Guy's family, his two beautiful children, Maxie and Finn.
She too can't seem to look away from what is happening right in front if her. She goes with it.. She takes a chance on it.
Guy's laughter filled the small restaurant. And I thought I loved his laugh before. This one topped it. I also figured out where Finn got his humongous cheese and adorable dimples. Although I wouldn't use the word adorable in this case. Nope. Definitely not adorable. The adjectives I'd use were not for this PG crowd.
What starts out as just a friendly date slowly grows into something more. Something that neither of them thought possible. Both of them guarding their hearts. Both unsure of what they are actually capable of giving. But both falling ever so fast in love with each other.
Your life is like this tree, deeply rooted with a solid foundation and countless branches linking your past throes with future dreams.
Every tree faces inevitable storms and strong winds testing the strength of its roots. Branches break. New ones grow. It will flower and leaves will fall. And from your tree new life will emerge. I fell in love with these characters. I fell in love with the family that went through the ringer back and in the end prevailed through it all. A family that in the end was compete.
