Review

"snappy...zippy new mystery" -- Entertainment Weekly

"Above Suspicion is a really good thriller with a sympathetic heroine." -- Daily American

"More than just an excellent mystery, Above Suspicion provides a dramatic look at victims and victimization. Author Lynda La Plante doesn't stop until she squeezes the last drop of emotion from the situation. The story and characters seamlessly flow into a reader's awareness as a complete and compelling reality. For a little added pleasure, an understated romance filters through the detectives' day-to-day grind. Highly recommended." -- Romance Reviews Today

"snappy...zippy new mystery"

-- "Entertainment Weekly"

'Lynda La Plante practically invented the thriller. She is without a doubt one of the best writers working today. ABOVE SUSPICION blew me away - it grabs you and doesn't let go until the last page'

KARIN SLAUGHTER

'La Plante is building up an interesting body of writing that is underrated... Anna Travis is confronted by the shadow of a frightening serial killer and through obstinate sleuthing, identifies a major public figure as the possible culprit. Anna proves a resourceful and believable heroine and heralds the launch of a major new character'

THE GUARDIAN

'. . . balancing the minutiae of police work and the dreadful politics of the job, Anna proves to be a resourceful and believable heroine in an all-too-recognisable contemporary Britain and heralds the launch of a major new character'

CRIME TIME

'The prime suspect here is an adored actor, poised to hit the big time. Could he really be behind a string of grisly murders? It's up to Anna Travis, La Plante's gutsy new heroine, to find out'

MAIL ON SUNDAY

'Like Jane Tennison, Anna Travis has to work a world which is still rampantly chauvinistic... it is a novel to read about the complexity of relationships, as well as for its compelling plot'

DAILY EXPRESS

'A damn good read'

-- "Romance Reviews Today"

"This is a terrific British police procedural...The triangular relationships add suspense as the audience wonders whether the naive rookie will fall for the seductive charm of the polished actor or will she act on her admiration and attraction to her superior. Lynda La Plante, author of the delightful Prime Suspect series, provides a marvelous first act to the elation of the sub-genre."
-- Harriet Klausner

"Most people hear best-selling British author La Plante's name and think of embattled Detective Chief Inspector Jane Tennison...here she returns to the familiar (and beloved) police procedural. In this sharp and fast-paced book...as always, La Plante excels at involving readers in the inner workings of a police investigation. Recommended for public libraries."
-- "Library Journal"

""Above Suspicion" is a really good thriller with a sympathetic heroine."
-- "Daily American"

"A page-turning, nail-biting, and utterly gripping work of crime fiction."
-- "True Romance" magazine

"For those who love mysteries, and only wish that American crime writer Patricia Cornwell had a dirtier mind, ""Above Suspicion"" is their book. With the book's American release, Lynda La Plante, the British author of the "Prime Suspect" novels, is back with more bondage, buggery and blasphemy...This perky detective may not only capture the killer and avenge the virgin, but she also emerges as a woman. In the process, La Plante's dead hooker whodunit has turned into an ugly duckling fairy tale"
-- "Los Angeles Times"

"La Plante keeps readers devouring pages at a murderous rate with this mystery starring detective Anna Travis, the clever daughter of a former London police chief."
-- "People" magazine

-- Karin Slaughter, author of "Faithless" and "Indelible"

"Battle-scarred Jane Tennyson moves offstage to make room for a fresh, unlined face...La Plante has given us a smart, plucky series protagonist who's enormously likable despite, or because of, her frailties."
-- "Kirkus Reviews" --This text refers to an out of print or unavailable edition of this title.

The last few LLP books I have read haven't been great so I started this one with trepidation - after page 1 I was hooked! I stayed up half the night reading and blamed the fact that I had bags under my eyes on my 11 week old son. Suffice to say after doing the motherly duties, I kept on reading and had the book finished within 24 hours <i know, i know, terrible mother!>. It reminded me of Prime Suspect, LLP at her best but I felt this was better. I sincerely hope she caries on with this character as she is just great. I am already looking forward to her next book

Having read Red Dahlia and Bella Mafia I am on a Lynda La Plante purge. I have just finished Above Suspicion and all I can say is WOW what a thoroughly enjoyable read. I wished I had read this before Red Dahlia though as Above Suspicion is the first with the characters Langton and Travis.

I was actually really feeling for poor Travis, her first murder case and arriving at the station, nobody took her on. Langton with his bellowing and bawling at her along with his put me downs making her flush with embarassment. It also made me laugh out loud the bit when they were on the plane and he was being his usual horrible self to her and she then came to the decision she hated him. Two minutes later he was nice to her and she retracted that decision and decided no, she really liked him. So so lifelike to reality (I know I have done that)

A very enjoyable story, made my heart race a couple of times and I look forward to the next episode of Langton and Travis.

This was the first book I have read from this author and very good I found it too. A very easy read and fast-moving story although finding a few legal errors were disappointing. Read it on and off over three days and would certainly read more by this author again.

I have had several of the Anna Travis books on my Kindle for a while and after reading the excellent Tennison, decided to give them a try. I am so glad I did! I really enjoyed this story of the young detective, Anna, on her first big murder case and found the whole process of what goes on completely fascinating. It was a great story too which kept you hanging on til the end to see what happened.

I was equally pleased to see that at the present time there are 9 books in this series and will now make a start on the next book in the series. Highly recommended read.

I read this after another crime drama from another writer. What a difference! Lynda La Plante is in another league to a lot of authors and I thoroughly enjoyed the quality of her writing in this book.
The plot is very good and kept me wanting to read more. I bought it at one of the special book price deals as I find the majority of her Kindle books too expensive, so I only buy them when they are on a deal but, it is worth it at the usual La Plante prices of £4.99.

Prime suspect, televised, was superb. I haven't read the book so can't comment on the quality of the writing. This book read as if it had been transcribed from a screenplay (maybe it has been?). There was far too much telling: (Sergeant blah blah then went to so and so and discovered xyz and presented it to Langton the next day...), and not enough characterisation. I want to be inside the characters' heads and I never really felt as if I was; I was being told what had happened all the time...and I got very fed up with that ....

It's a procedural, fair enough, so I can forgive the lack of action, but I just found the plot unbelievably tedious. Skipped the last third, read the last chapter or two and didn't feel as though I'd missed much. I'd go for DI Banks instead next time ...

I was a bit disappointed if I'm honest. I expected real edge of your seat thriller with twists and turns. That said I would read another book from the same author as it was well written but you know who the killer is from the start
