Synopsis (from Goodreads): In the future Dystopian society of Cabal, the government instills equality for all and offers its citizens the perfect system. There is food, shelter and jobs for everyone. The one requirement is to follow the rules without question, including the government's match in marriage and "The Day of the Chosen", a lottery that randomly selects families to conceive children as natural means hasn't existed in generations. Following her eighteenth birthday, Olivia Parker accepts her requirement to marry her childhood best friend, Joshua Warren, and is eager to start her work assignment and new life when it all comes abruptly to an end as she's arrested and thrown in prison. The only crime committed, her existence. Olivia is unlike the rest of the world born not from "The Day of the Chosen." The truth haunts the government and puts her life in grave danger as one simple fact would destroy the perfect system. With Joshua's help, Olivia breaks free of prison and is forced on the run. Together they set out to find the promised rebel town in search of a new home and new life together. Their situation seems less than promising as they reach the town of Haven. New rules and customs must be adhered to in order to stay. Leaving would mean most certain death in the large expanse of the Gravelands. Time is running out as the government mounts an attack to destroy Olivia and bury her secret with her. Thrown into a world unlike their own, they must quickly adapt to survive.Read more ›
Things on earth are no longer flourishing after world war 3&4 a plague and a deadly vaccination; so we can say earth is pretty much in rewinds. Town are now run by the government with stick rules and harsh punishment. Can you believe they flagged people, I was shocked.
Imagine all that we take for granted taken away no choice in what we do or even who we marry.
Babes are now made in labs, relationship are forbidden until the age of 18 when the government choose who you marry. That was the case for childhood best friends Olivia Parker and Joshua Warren.
They could not be more over joyed by the news however their joy is short lived....and that my friends is the start of one of the most action packed suspense fill stories I have ever read.
Their journey of discovery off all thing forbidden was just amazing. Not only that but they have to fight for each other and to stay alive.
They face such adversity, but that did not affect their bond or sense of humor.
very well written and fast pace.
If you liked the hunger games you will love this
4.5 page turning stars for all the suspense and drama
Poor Olivia, no matter where she ends up people still want to use her for their own gains; because she's special or so they believe. I became attached to Olivia early on, she is a good choice as a main character, I love her rebellious streak and also her determination. Joshua is a great character, the devotion he shows towards Olivia is impressive and makes me love him even more. The relationship shared between them is one to treasure as they always have each others back, it's very heartwarming.
I now understand why it's said to be like `Matched' and `The Hunger Games'. I partly agree but also disagree as I enjoyed Aberrant more than either of the other two.
I love Ruth's style of writing, it didn't take long to read at all because the words just seemed to flow and I didn't want to put it down. It's very fast-paced and caught my attention from the get go.
I can't wait to read more of the Aberrant series. I hope we get to see Olivia's mum and also the survivors of Haven again, I feel as if we have barely scratched the surface.
Aberrant finishes whilst they are both still learning about the world they live in and i'm eager to find out what they discover and how it affects them both!
I received an e-copy of this book via Girls Heart Books in exchange for my honest review and blog tour participation. Well what can I say about the two different covers for this book. The one pictured to the left with the city pictured on it is the e-book cover, and the one pictured on the right is the paperback cover. I do like them both. I suppose the e-book cover is perhaps more dystopian-esque having the remains of a town on it with the smoke from the devastation still rising into the air. the paperback cover has a female on the front cover. I'd say the female is the main character in the book Olivia Parker, she is standing alone with what looks like devastation all around. I think the e-book cover will appeal to those bigger dystopian fans where as the paperback cover may attract those who perhaps aren't such big dystopian fans or maybe wanting to try something new and different.
I have to say I would pick up either of these covers to learn more about the book. I do truly like both covers.
The book really starts with a marriage ceremony, there's five boys and five girls standing on a stage waiting to be told who the government has paired them up with. The girls all wear white dresses, its the only time they will ever wear white in their lives for their marriage ceremony. They know who the boys are as they have been at school and all come from the same neighbourhood, but they haven't been dating or anything. Olivia stands fourth in line watching three other pairings made hoping she doesn't get paired with the disgustingly smelly Levi. If she does get paired with him she'll just have to make the best of it, as what the government says and decrees is law. Olivia lets out a breath of relief when her match is called as Joshua.Read more ›
