And yet, it was admittedly a bit frustrating and I could quite happily go a few days without playing it. Other reviewers have already pointed this out, but there is a lot of going backwards and forwards, especially if you follow the guide to a tee. After a while, you do start to become more familiar with the surroundings and the strange sounds.
There are two modes, casual and expert, of which I played casual. You can also set up more than one profile. It offers a quick route to the guide and it also offers a hint option. The guide is very comprehensive and it can be a tricky decision as to how much of the guide you use - it is very useful and for someone like me who has not played any of the other games in the 'Black Lime Games' series it saved me on many occasions although it can take away some of the achievement of working it out for yourself. There is also a list of 'achievements' you can pick up along the way such as collecting morphing objects, although this is well-hidden and you may not realise you can do this until you actually reach an achievement or collect an appropriate object.
Overall, it was a bit of a shame to finish and and I now wonder where do I go next? Do I try it again on expert level? Do I try it again without being so dependent on the guide? Do I play it again and try and unlock more achievements next time round? Or do I try a different game in the 'Black Lime Games' series? I will probably give another game in the series a go at some point because I think some of my reservations and frustrations simply boiled down to not being familiar with how their hidden object games work and I might do better with a different game now that I have some understanding. I wanted something slightly different and a bit of a challenge and I got that from this game.
Add to that a number of "achievement" challenges which I only discovered part way through the game; morphing objects which don't morph, just fade in and out; wrongly named hidden objects (not Americanisms, which I can live with, but just plain wrong); hints that point to the wrong place; a story-line which is far from coherent and the ridiculous and constant back-tracking which others have mentioned (often through 5 or 6 scenes) and you have a game which is just not much of a pleasure to play.
I guess it's OK, nothing fundamentally wrong with it, but I haven't enjoyed a HOG so little since the two 'Mystery Chronicles:Betrayal of Love' which was made by the same studio (Lazy Turtle) and shared many of the same problems. Looks like a pattern is beginning to emerge...
Really, there are much better games out there for the same money!
