This little unit, is genuinely awesome, the aerial packaged with it is Dreadful though, you will need to buy another aerial, I bought a £30 Mag Mount external roof aerial and I can't fault it. Last weekend drove all over Dartmoor and even got Dab Radio so you can't get much better than that..
The hands free kit, it works, and works well.. Everyone I have called so far couldn't tell I was driving.
Bluetooth audio, works perfectly with iPhone 6+
The FM transmitter? Again it works perfectly.
In conclusion, I bought this item expecting it to be a bit rubbish, tacky and to send it back, it is a awesome piece of kit, works perfectly, means I don't have to listen to Grimmy on Radio 1 any more and can now listen to Chris Moyles on Radio X so it's worth every penny!
First a bit about me and my needs.....I am a UK truck driver and often go long haul all over the UK. I wanted more variety on my radio which digital provides, how awful are some local stations...Alan Partridge anyone? My chosen station is BBCradio6.
It was easy to do and the instructions that come with it are clear and concise..The suction cup that holds it is one of the best I have ever used and is so strong can easily hold onto a vertical surface on my dashboard, perfect.
Setting up the stations was a little bit tricky as you need as strong a signal as possible, my yard depot is not one of them. But once I had a good signal it was ok.
Ease of use:-
Really easy to use on the go or standing still, the command buttons are big enough for you to not take your eyes off the road with times with that of changing over a station on your usual radio.
To personalise the device you can go to settings and change colours of the display etc , also you can use a 'power save' mode that basically dims the light which is really useful for night time driving.
Scrolling information about songs etc is a nice touch too which I didn't expect, ha ha I'm always like.."WHO is the song by and what is it called??"
This is where I fall out of love with this......I have a car with digital radio and it pretty much picks up signal across the UK even in rural areas which are meant to be poor. However this device drops countless times and with the aerial supplied am wondering if its up to the job. I would have thought that being in a truck that is way higher than a car with give me better unadulterated signal, not so. So it looks like I am going to have to fork out for another digital aerial.
The other thing which is supremely annoying is that the 'FREE STATION' that you tune into on your regular radio is often used my local radio stations which overrides your own signal, driving through Bradford I had the pleasure of listening to morning prayer....The same happened on the M1 northbound, somehow I picked up someone else's signal, luckily for me it was Cajun accordion music time for about half an hour. This was the worst though, usually when this happens its a quick annoyance.
I bought this radio not only because I wanted digital radio but because of the phone bluetooth option. Although it works the amount of 'white noise' that comes with it makes the sound quality unbearable sometimes. Just a FYI...I have earthed this device as per instructions and now think I may have to take off the connector , rub down the paint work and re-stick the aerial...hopefully this might eliminate this ???
Value for money:-
This is where I'm on the fence, IF this worked as intended I would say a big fat YEP! But it doesn't. I'm 'tec savvy' and this just isn't worth £98 when you then have to start enhancing it.
BUT I will update this review if and when I can get it as good as possible.
Have been having problems with Bluetooth calls on and off for a couple of months to the point I tried factory reseting and deleting phone pairings several times. I contact the manufacturer and they said it must be faulty so I have returned it. I am gutted as I loved this little smart device but handfree is so important theses days for work. Dab still worked flawlessly but the amount of times I could here the person on the other end but they couldn't here me happen too many times. May just of had a bad one but don't think I will try another one because of the issue
Retired to Amazon as this is the 3rd AutoDab product that has failed within 6 weeks of purchase. I do not recommend these units at all.
I have had this installed for a few months now and am fairly impressed with the overall ease of use and quality of the product.
As I bought this to replace another unit I already had an external antenna which in my opinion is a must.
I have not connected this via FM it is connected via the 3.5mm jack and the sound quality is good, although this can vary depending on the station. There are less blackspots using this than my previous unit.
I have been able to install the unit in the centre console of my car so it's nice and tidy without cables trailing allover.
My only issue with this unit is the built in Bluetooth, you can't turn it off in the settings!!!! it literally allows you to take telephone calls hands free which is a function already built into my car. The issues I have with this are that depending on the phone you have the unit can interfere with the Bluetooth connection when you make a call, the audio becomes crackly on the call also there is a really annoying Bluetooth logo that continues to flash on the screen (not a big thing just annoying). If it hadn't been for skipping on a little bit of coding to turn off the Bluetooth I would have given this 5 out of 5 unfortunately it gets a 4 which would have been a 3 if it hadn't been for me replacing my phone.
(Tested on 2 android phones there was interference, on iPhone 7 there is no interference.
