I have a pair of these controlled by a Varilight LED dimmer. The two 8W LEDs combine to make 16W which is smoothly controlled by the dimmer.

It is well made with a substantial and smoothly finned heat-sink on the rear surface of the bulb. This bulb is best fitted with a good air circulation around it because LEDs do not have a long life if allowed to get too hot. It is very close to the same outline size and shape as a classic old fashioned 60 Watt light bulb.

The colour is a nice 3000K warm white, ideal for a bedroom or living room, and it also matched the old 60 Watt bulb reasonably well for colour and brightness when I compared them. This is especially significant now that apparently exposure to a bluer light (ie daylight colour) for a few hours before bedtime might delay our desire to sleep. Unlike the 60W Tungsten filament bulb which goes down through orange to dim red to black, the LED does not change colour as it dims.

This LED is intended for Trailing Edge dimming, and when the pair are dimmed with the Varilight in Trailing Edge mode there is no flicker except for a faint bit at the very dimmest setting - a starving dimmer. A single bulb (only 8W) does not go quite as dark with this dimmer if it had been set for two (16W), but again that is the dimmer needing some current to work (specification says it needs at least a 10W load).

Can be expensive, but still recommended if you shop around.

They arent bad bulbs and they give off a decent amount of light though one has failed already after only 4 months of use (possibly related to a dimmer but they say they are compatible). I know there is a warranty but despite them promising to send me a replacement THREE times I have still not received one so do not think it is likely to happen on the fourth go. Buy them on the assumption there is probably no warranty!!

Think that you need to check which dimmers this unit is compatible with. We only had two bulbs in the house which I hadn't yet switched over to LED, both being on dimmer switches in daughters bedroom allowing main light to act as night light. The Varilight dimmer switch did dim the bulb but the range was not great with the dimmest still being far too bright to be used as a night light. So back to using incandescent bulb.

i've been looking for a while for a replacement 60w bulb using leds and here at last i've found one that fulfils my requirements which are to match the colour of the tungstens and to work on dimmers as all my rooms are on dimmers - they are old ones and these actually worked - although none are working on their own - they are all on dimmers with at least 4 bulbs attached of which some are still tungsten - but if you are looking for a dimmable led this seems to be it - it is just a pity that they do not make a candle style smaller wattage one as i have a lot of these to replace sometime too... one other thing is to monitor the price because they dropped price by a full pound the week after i bought them - which was irritating AND they do not offer a discount for quantity...

I like LED bulbs because they are low power users that do not take half an hour to illuminate a room. I wanted one for my dining room which is fitted with a dimmer switch, and therein lay the problem because not all eco bulbs are created equal and many cannot be dimmed. This one can however and is installed and working perfectly. I am also using one on a non dimmed light, where it is working equally well. The bulbs do give off a very bright white light, which I like but won't be to the taste of people who like warm whites. They are like spotlights in that all the light goes downwards. Exactly what I wanted, and working very well.

I bought this for a lounge equipped with a dimmer switch. The light output is nice - warm and yet at least as bright as a 60 Watt conventional bulb. In addition, this bulb functions perfectly well with an ordinary dimmer switch. It's heartening to think that it's saving both my pocket and the environment too by giving the light output of a 60 Watt bulb (when the dimmer is fully turned up) whilst only consuming 8 Watts. Recommended.

The previous MR16 bulbs dumped 40 watts into the ceiling and were very unreliable. The electrician has today replaced them with eight of the Auraglow LEDs and we can't really tell the difference as regards light output. The transformers were also changed and we've seen no signs of the flickering which some reviewers have identified (we believe from older iron-core transformers). So far so good.

Well worth the extra. Most LED lamps are harsh, even the suggested warm white temperature of 3500K.

I always buy the lowest temp for warmth which seems to be around the 3000-3200K mark.

They have gone a step further with this lamp as it is the warmest I have seen, it also gives a very high quality deep sheen to the room which I havn't seen before. Its a lovely look.

I bought this for my kids bedroom which has a dimmer fitted, the dimming is very smooth and works down to a very low level and looks great dimmed too.

It does cost a little more but you can see its a quality product, I will definitely be buying more of these for my other rooms and I think it will look amazing in desk lamps too.

Someone has finally nailed LED lighting technology, this is the best you can get.
