This monitor has a decent picture, refresh rate and Gsync making it a great gaming monitor. I have a 3090 graphics card I care more about a consistent frames per second than having a stupidly high resolution. QHD is a great compromise for me in that there’s a much higher pixel density than HD but I can still run modern games on maxed out settings - this will depend on your graphics card though. There’s some useful additional features such as ‘training mode’ where you can get the monitor to display a target on the centre of the screen. This is useful for some shooters when the game doesn’t display a target and you have to use gun sights eg allowing you to accurately headshot when firing from the hip. Overall I think this a great monitor for the money

I've been geeking out over the ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QM 280Hz monitor lately, and let me tell you, it's been quite the ride. Here's my own personal take on this beast of a gaming monitor:

Sleek Design and Fast Refresh Rate (5/5):
First things first, this monitor looks the part. It's got that sleek gaming vibe without going overboard. But what really got me hooked is that 280Hz refresh rate. Seriously, it's like buttery smooth gaming heaven. If you haven't experienced high refresh rates yet, you're in for a treat.

Full HD and ELMB Sync (4.5/5):
Gaming in Full HD (1080p) never felt this good. The visuals are sharp, and the colors pop. And let's not forget ELMB Sync. It reduces motion blur, and when combined with the high refresh rate, it's a game-changer. Fast-paced games have never been this clear.

Fast Response Time and G-Sync (4/5):
With a 1ms response time and G-Sync compatibility, this monitor keeps up with my frantic gaming sessions. No more screen tearing, no more lag. It's like the monitor can read my mind.

      HDR (3.5/5):
Okay, the HDR is decent, but not mind-blowing. It definitely enhances the visual experience, but it's not quite on par with some of the premium HDR monitors out there. I'd say it's a nice bonus rather than a game-changer.

      Build Quality (4/5):
The TUF Gaming monitor feels sturdy and well-built. The stand is rock-solid, and you can adjust it to your heart's content. Plus, the bezels are nice and thin, which adds to the immersive gaming experience.

      Price and Value (4/5):
Now, let's talk about the price. It's not exactly a budget monitor, but considering the performance you're getting, it's a solid investment. If you're serious about gaming and want a smoother, tear-free experience, it's worth every dollar.

      In Conclusion:
To wrap it up, the ASUS TUF Gaming VG279QM 280Hz monitor is a gaming beast that has seriously upped my gaming game. The speed, the visuals, and the overall experience are top-notch. If you're a gamer looking to take your skills to the next level and don't mind spending a bit extra for a premium monitor, this one's a winner. It's a bit pricier, but trust me, those silky-smooth 280Hz frames are worth every cent. Happy gaming!

I had an Acer Nitro VG280K, which was similar price, similar reviews. It served me well but got broken. Now I have an ASUS TUF Gaming VG289Q.

So I'll compare this to that. Acer or ASUS?

      SETUP - ASUS

You just screw the bottom to the rest and you're done.

Mine came with both an EU and UK plug, but at first I only saw the EU plug, so spent hours researching what cable or adapter to get, only to later find the UK plug.

However, I don't remember the exact process for the Acer, but I do remember holding it where I shouldn't and the monitor sliding off and crashing onto my knees. Because it SITS in, using gravity to secure it. It's not screwed in.

But with the ASUS, you don't have to worry about where you're holding it and it flying off. It's screwed together.

      PRESET MODES - ACER

If you're somehow averse to adjusting things yourself, there are a few presets. ASUS has a cool, almost monochrome one, though I'm not sure why you'd use it. Acer's presets had better pictures though.

      USER-ADJUSTED PICTURE - ASUS

If you go into the user mode and change things yourself, you'll end up with better contrasts and a more striking image than my Acer, and not just because that was 'matte' while this is 'glossy'.

Just whack the brightness up, tweak the contrast, and nudge the sharpness up one to remove the blur, and the picture is almost perfect. Colour-on-white, like the yellow buttons on Amazon, can look a bit 'oversharp', but the pop your image gives when gaming or watching something pretty far outweights that.

      SWIVEL - ASUS

The Acer could swivel back/up and forward/down, but the ASUS can swivel around, and the screen itself can be turned to vertical, giving you viewing options but also the ability to 'store' it away and lower the risk of it getting knocked over.

      LONGEVITY / ROBUSTNESS - Acer?

I've only had the ASUS for a few days. But my Acer did survive crashing onto my knees and a bit of abuse, yet only suffered minor backlight bleeding in the corner. No dead pixels.

      OVERALL - ASUS

The fact is, once you've nudged the settings, ASUS' picture gives more of a pop, and the swivel and vertical option is neat.

The conclusion: a great deal for £200-something.
