Asus introduces the Padfone2 - the world’s quad core CPU phone that easily converts into a tablet.
Quad-core performance. The fastest Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core CPU, combined with 2Gb RAM, gives the Padfone 2 more than enough power to meet your multimedia needs. The built-in eMMC flash storage provides all the space you need for your movies, books, and games.
Enjoy super-long talk time. Enjoy up to 16 hours of 3G talk time with the Padfone2’s 2140 mAh battery. If 16 hours just isn’t enough, extend the talk time to an amazing 36 hours just by tapping into an additional battery in the Padfone2 Station. With one shared plan for both devices (utilising the phone SIM card for all data connectivity), maximum savings are on offer.
Instant data transfer. Slide the Padfone2 handset into the Padfone2 Station for an expanded view, with the layout optimised for pad mode for easy reading. The Padfone2 contains the power and storage for the Padfone2 Station screen.
Stunning displays. The Padfone2 features a combination of brilliant screens. The handset boasts a 4.7 inch HD Super IPS+ touchscreen display, with scratch-resistant Corning glass with anti-fingerprint coating. The screen is high brightness so reading in direct sunlight poses no problems. Slide the handset into the Padfone2 Station and you increase the screen size to a 10.1 inch WXGA IPS touchscreen panel, again with scratch-resistant Corning glass and anti-fingerprint coating.
13MP camera. This powerful camera offers 720p high-speed recording at 60fps, 100 consecutive photo captures at 6fps and, when coupled with 30% enhanced colour and contrast, means that the Padfone2 will soon become your camera of choice.

At padfoneclub forum - http://www.padfoneclub.com/pl/forum/forum_viewforum.php?13 - you can see that many users had problems with device and the vast majority is very unhappy with the service. One friend to whom I recommended the device also experienced serious delays having his phone screen replaced in Hong Kong after dropping it from a small height. So it seems the problem is world-wide.
Besides this terrible support, note that if anything happens to the phone, you can do nothing with the station. So despite the cool design it is not very functional for this reason.
Very frustrating experience overall. Three months using the phone and three months waiting for repair.
I use software on my phone to record technical info for certificates, using the letterbox view that a phone gives you is a pain in the ....
Managing address books, calendars, emails etc across multiple platforms (pc, phone, tablet) is a pain in the ....
Trying to use a laptop on a mobile connection is a, well you get he picture.
Now try doing those things on a Padfone, I can use the phone to record data then slip it into the tablet and continue on a more comfortable screen, my address book is there so I don't have to keep multiple devices in sync (gone are multiple entries caused by HTC & Outlook trying to sync with each other). I can upload to Dropbox from the middle of a field. Manage my diary on the tablet then pop the phone on the dash and use Google maps to navigate to the next appointment.
Both the phone and the tablet screen are good quality and they are at top end of what is available. Top end products from Apple HTC or Samsung may beat the individual components of the Padfone but none of them can do what it can without using some cloud sync app and having multiple SIMs and devices. Personally I think the Asus has a much better quality feel to it than the current crop of Samsung phones and Android has had apple on the run for sometime.
Some have stated that you could purchase a phone & tablet for less, you could but of nowhere near he same quality or size. The Padfone is dropping in price as the infinity is coming out soon so it really is a bargin.
The product itself is excellent - phone fits snugly into back of tablet screen and instant switch. Not all apps make the transition and often have to be restarted even if they are on the list of apps that will seemlessly appear on the tablet when docked.
Phone is excellent. Clear calls - good battery life compared with the HTC One which sadly had to return to Phones4U because the batt life was so poor as to be unusable. The Padfone phone battery life is aided and abetted by being able to use the docking station as a booster charger at any time; the tablet has a 5400 mAmp battery built in and this allows the unit to last a lot longer.
Camera is excellent - and expect some improvements to the low light shots as a result of the firmware update.
The phone looks and feels like a quality product, it is light and easy in the hand while also being sturdy and tough. The tablet is OK - good sound quality (though only a mono speaker) but unfortunately very prone to fingerprint smears - also too reflective; one has to fight the super shiny screen to watch videos or just the screen in certain light. Needs a matt screen protector but unfortunately specific products for the Padfone 2 are few and far between; the market being saturated with iPad this that and the other.
Sadly the first tablet we got had a clicky screen so that one held the top right corner the screen moved and clicked so we returned it and the replacement is fine so far. Incidentally, Amazon handled that very well.
ASUS largely leave Android alone and you get more or less a stock 4.Read more ›

This idea is fantastic, shame it was Asus that came up with it. I have had this phone less than a year and I wish I had not bother now. A waste of money. Read morePublished 23 months ago by xtrojt
