When installing this board, I thought that it was a really nice design, nice heat sinks, strategically located ports and headers and I found the general build quality to be excellent. I'm very impressed by the onboard features, good compatible intel gigabit and superb sound. Another nice feature is HDMI passthrough, nice if you have some other HDMI device but only one port.
The board's onboard devices are all supported fine in windows, it worked ok in linux when i tried it but I didn't play too much in linux as I wanted this for games, sadly it had to be a windows box. But the drivers are good, support for everything works just fine, performance wise .. well .. I get better than the best scores displayed in 3DMark with this board and 2 x HD 7990's in crossfire. So I'm very happy with the board.
I had a bit of a scare when first running Windows, which I might attribute to older third-party sensor software: they reported over-volting of vCore (1.4 V with peaks at 1.9 V), and overrunning of clocks (varying bus speeds, brief peaks of up to 6GHz core clocks), so it's very important to change this (in EUFI setup) immediately as I did, and update sensing software (e.g. CPU-ID). I've not tried deliberate overclocks; only underclocks, as I'm awaiting an aftermarket cooler for the processor, and even then will only attempt modest clocking.
Generally, with all my sensing software fixed, I find voltage is very tricky to control. I found that vCore 0.9 V + 0.06 V is stable for my i5-4560K for all clock speeds (below TDP), but the actual voltage reported in all tools is in the range 0.75 V – 1.20 V (~5% – 100% load).
I also ordered the i7 4770K, 8GB G-Skills Ripjaws X, 250GB Samsung 840 Evo SSD and a Coolermaster CM690 III case with Seidon 120V watercooler (i am also running 4 other SATA HDD's). This motherboard is brilliant. I got the C2 version, which was a must for me. I updated the firmware and i can, pretty much, one-click overclock to 4.6GHz. The UEFI is complex but easy to navigate. I have been running this for a few weeks now and i have zero issues with it. I would absolutely recommend this board. I also looked at the Fatal1ty and Extreme6 boards but, for the price, i think this board has the most features.
If i was to nitpick then it would be the colour. It is a sort of brown colour which would of looked much better in black. However if the only problem is the colour then I think that sums up the board!
The packaging is superb, it would be almost impossible for it to arrive damaged. Comes with plenty of sata cables, an SLI bridge, the I/O plate looks superb (probably the nicest looking one I've had). The UEFI and Bios are an absolute dream to work with, I had my 4670k overclocked to 4.5Ghz without much effort (with 1.3v) and it's fully stable after a burn in test and 24h prime95. I really am glad I decided to go for this motherboard.
The only one criticism I have, and it's a small one - is the location of the chassis fan sockets. They're directly below the CPU socket, which makes cable management extremely difficult. I managed it, but it's not quite as near as I would like. They should be located on the edge of the board somewhere, not in the middle. That's just me being picky, and literally the only thing I can find to complain about.
Definitely would recommend this!
