The phone comes in a nice box with all the relevant equipment you would require to get you moving. It is a nice phone, looks a bit like a Nexus 4, but obviously not as solidly built. It does look minimal and it doesn't come installed with bloatware. But, this is a phone at less than half the price of the S4. It is very light and the back is smooth plastic, which is also a fingerprint magnet. It has a microSD card slot only tried a 64gb card and I could access my photos and files etc.
Music and Video playback is very good, it seems they have put effort in the Archos Media player to playback video extremely well, so this is a big plus point, you can also buy codec to play mpeg2 formats. But, it plays what I have well. Taking photo's with the 8Mb pixel camera seem to be good in daylight and you have a LED flash for night photo's not as pristine as the galaxy Note 2 camera.
It has Jelly Bean installed and as soon as you have charged it up fully and got your WiFi or connection up and running, it will ask to install the latest firmware. The firmware was pretty big file and after 2 restarts the install was complete. The screen is IPS and is very good, blacks are black and the clarity is excellent it oozes class, the screen isn't gorilla glass and you should look at screen protectors if you wish to prolong the life of the screen.
Using the phone is easy, it has a dual SIM, and you do get an adaptor of sorts to put a micro SIM in. Now, I only tried the dual SIM for a short while, but it seemed to work fine for the 40min of playing with it. I then reverted to single SIM layout.Read more ›
What it do:
+ Makes phone calls - calls are easy to place, easy to answer (swipe control) and on both sides of the line sound is crisp and clear.
+ Sends texts - which is easy: the screen is massive (more in a moment) and so the qwerty keyboard is easy to use whether you have big fingers or are all thumbs. The predictive text is the same as that on Samsung, and probably many others, where as you type, a row of suggested words comes up. You either select it or carry on typing - and the nice thing is like the Samsung, it seems to "learn" your common vocabulary, so predicts the next word e.g. you start typing "Mon...", it'll offer Monkey/ Money/ Monday - pick Monday and it'll automatically suggest "Morning" - etc.
+ Plays media - radio is excellent, sound from mp3s also excellent. It plays eg youtube videos, and the visual quality/ sound - as youd expect by now; excellent.
+ Camera - is mind blowing. Its actually better - by a LONG straw - than the one on my old Samsung Galaxy S3. The screen, as mentioned, massive, but also very good quality, so images look amazing
Camera also records movies, which - yep - are awesome quality.
+ It also has internet capability, email, and all the other usual tools (calculator, calendar, alarm clock, Bluetooth, wifi, app support, yada yada yada) that you expect to be on smart phones these days. And yes, any app you can install on an Android phone you can install on this.
+ The screen: HUGE. Bigger than the S4.Read more ›
Looks and feels nice, big screen and sharp picture.
The sound quailty as an MP3 players is great, very clear and sharp.
Arrived on time and well packed.
Now for the bad part:
It may be the phone I received, but It's let down with the 2 sim option, as the phone kept switching between sims, the picture is good but nothing like the S4.
While speaking on the phone, the voice on the other side began to fade, battery life is poor, lucky to last 24hrs and that is without using the phone all the time, I did not install any apps which would drain the battery life.
The phone would not dial and would disconnect even with a full reception bar.
Wi-Fi again kept losing it's connection.
