The problem was that the law lecturer at the adult education college I attended couldn't spell, and the only textbook he recommended was the offputtingly enormous 'Law for AQA' by Elliott and Quinn. It's very difficult trying to search on Google for the details on a key case like Tuberville v Savage 1669 when your lecturer has spelt it 'Tubbyfill v Savidge'.
Then I came across this wonderful book, and gradually my understanding of Law became much more organised. It tells you everything you need to know for AQA Law AS, and not much more. It is absolutely excellent for the essay papers -- Modules 1 and 2 -- but my only advice would be to spend a disproportionate amount of time revising the pages (and doing the questions) on Module 3 (Offences against the Person and Tort/Damages). Both myself and a colleague got an overall 'B' on the AS, with very similar splits by module: A-A-C and A-A-D.
Naturally this year I'm trying to do the A2 Law, and my big regret is that Jacqueline Martin's book on the subject won't be ready until a month after the exam!
it is easy to understand for people who dont have the faintest idea about law.
i was predicted a D, but with this book i got an A.
simple explanations and a lot of key cases you will need for the exam.
recommend to anyone who is struggleing with AS/A2 Law
Definitely a good purchase and I would recommend this to anyone who is thinking about or currently taking Law as a subject for A-Level; this book is brilliant!
However, this is a very well written book which of what I have seen of the book. The only down fall if you have the new and up to date version 4, please do make sure you check the pages are all their. I only noticed that pages 49 - 80 are missing which is two whole chapters. This is why I have given the review and only scored the book with 4 stars.
I have informed the publisher and sent the book back to Amazon who have resent the next book, however their is no why of checking that the pagers are all their until I receive my new book.
On the positive side, the book is well presented and each chapter when all present, has small but informative sections to be able to take on board what they are teaching you. There are sample questions at the end of each chapter, although, their are no answers to the questions and this is quite a problem when you are learning from home.
Overall, the book is a good buy and I would recommend this book to all who may need the book for their study. However, the first point I made is still valid. You should always look the book first to see if it is suited to your needs.
I have now received the replacement of my book and I have received it with all chapters and no missing pages. I would still check on receipt of your book just in case there are still a few books with pages missing.
still enjoying a well written book.
Its clear cut, done to the bone!, it also has many cases, which are needed in the exam.
This is a great book however, keep checking the specification for your year, to see if there is anything the book missed out or didnt cover well. Other than that, its a great book to learn from.
However if the law of tort interests you in particular, I wouldn't recommend it, as that chapter's standard surely doesn't match up to the rest of the book.
