Not that great
on 1 October 2010
This book is detailed in certain chapters such movement in and out of cells, the heart ( mainly UNIT 1).The book is fairly weak in UNIT 2 - it certainly misses the point in mitosis and meiosis, one of the key chapters of the course. One thing that certainly irritated me was the way that the book goes about its explanations, proceeding in a rather roundabout way to explain a point that could be sinply stated in a couple of bullet points.
The chapters it does cover well could be learnt from the "Advanced Biology" ( Michael Kent 2000) book which covers every topic of every exam board in thorough detail. However, the syllabus of the AQA AS Biology course is fairly vague so the book is worth a buy to determine what level of detail to go to, but certainly is not to be used on its own - it must be used in conjunction with the "Advanced Biology" (Clegg) or "Advanced Biology"(Kent) ( my personal preference being Kent).
