Firstly the quad core CPU has 8.0mb cache and not 2.0 mb as described in the product description. To install took less than 5 minutes including attaching the heatsink to the quad core CPU. The heatsink comes with its own adhesive paste attached to it, so no need to buy additional heatsink paste as sticks to the quad core robustly. The quad core CPU nicely slotted onto my AM2+ socket with no problems bearing in mind it is primarily built for AM3 sockets but is backward compatible to AM2+ motherboard sockets with the correct bios version. (In this case an ASUS M2N32 - SLI Deluxe motherboard).

I performed the 3d mark tests with the quad core CPU, my AMD HD6670 Graphics card, and 6gb DDR2 Corsair Memory (800 mhz). Compared to my AMD Athlon 64 4400 "Dual Core" (with the same graphics card and memory), the results of the performance have nearly doubled so is far more efficient. What that means in 'English' for me is that I am now watching HD films which are now seamless as opposed to jumping and becoming a little out of synch with the sound. It can easily handle my photo-editing/HDR work without the programs delaying when editing and updating photos. This is whilst performing other behind the scenes tasks, whether on Windows 7 Home Premium or Windows 8 Pro. No stability issues at all.

I am not a PC Gamer so can't tell you how effective it is for PC games particularly high-end graphics games.

As my motherboard is 5 years old I was thinking of upgrading, but, this quad core CPU has given it a new lease of life so will not be upgrading for another year at least.

It's a brute of a processor - and good value for money. It's gone into a 'Media Server' and so only spends its time processing TV signals and recording programmes etc. But all four cores only ever seem to peak at about 10%.

This looks like it'll be a processor for all but the most demanding of systems!

My friends all recently went back to PC gaming leaving me behind with an an extremely old Athlon 64 X2 5200+ and a Radeon x1950pro... I thought that by installing a new Radeon HD 7850 I could at least run battlefield 3, but the game was far more CPU intensive than I imagined! Seems you need a quad core to run anything these days.

With this Phenom II X4 945 (fastest 95W processor my old motherboard could take) and 4gb DDR2 ram and the new Radeon HD 7850 I can run battlefield 3 on high settings at 1920x1080 on 64 players maps with 35-45fps - good enough for me! :)

I originally planned to use this processor to get me by until I had the money to build a new system, however given it performance with battlefield 3, farcry 3 and skyrim I can see me easily getting a couple of years out of this processor! :D

I bought this CPU (direct from Amazon) to replace the AMD Athlon 64 X2 5600+ that was in my PC, as this was the highest specification CPU that my motherboard (Asus M2N32-SLI Deluxe) would support.

The upgrade has definitely made a difference to the performance. Although, for what I use my PC, I'm not really sure whether it was enough to warrant the cost. I'd say replacing my spinning-disk hard drive with a solid state one seemed better in that respect.

Note: Windows 7 gives this CPU a 7.3 performance rating on my PC.

The heatsink and fan supplied with this CPU seems better than that supplied with the previous one, as it's quite a bit quieter (especially in summer). That certainly helped me feel better about upgrading to this CPU.

Running solid since purchase with no issues at all & made my pc run anything once again and at this price its a real no brainer .. If your going to run any modern style gfx card you must upgrade to at least a quad core or u will bottlekneck . So this is a total must these days .. This is also the best chip u can put in an AM2 SOCKET motherboard . All u need is the last bios which is beta and runs this chip THANKS

Just swapped out a x2 Semprom 2200 for this x4 945 as it's the fastest cpu for my HP motherboard (M2N68-LA)95w.
Went in easy peasy in 5 minutes - Wow what a difference!
Youtube 1080 HD videos are seamless, Arma2 is playable, starts up in 20 seconds!
Next is a 500w PSU and a decent graphics card, some more RAM and an SSD.
