I've been running this CPU now for about 5 months. It is truly exceptional, it handles everything you throw at it including intense video editing, multi-tasking and various stress tests. I'm using an ASROCK 990fx extreme9 mobo which runs this CPU very well and a watercooling kit that that keeps the temperatures down. If you want to know what just ask in the comments.

The CPU itself is power hungry and therefore can reach high temperatures. On an average day it idles at around 37 degrees but under full load has reached 68 degrees.

In Summary: An excellent 8-core CPU with outstanding performance, just keep £100 spare for a watercooling kit as it is a must.

Very good cpu. This is an upgrade from my FX-8350 which is great also and I overclocked FX-8350 to 4.4GHZ (same clock speed as new FX-9370) on air with Alpenfohn K2 mount doom, all stable but I just could not get it to 4.7GHz. So critics who claim you can get an FX-8350 for £100 cheaper and then OC it yourself to 4.7GHz, is not true because it all comes down to SILICON LOTTERY (I struck out on silicon lottery with my FX-8350!). This FX-9590 is cherry picked using the highest grade silicon and then factory overclocked by AMD to 4.7GHz and stable (turbo oc to 5GHz). CPU reaches 220W TDP only when oc'd to 5GHz or more. Intel sycophants criticised this a lot because of the 220W heat output, even though i7-4960X @ 4.6ghz consumes c.350W under load. They alleged FX9590 would require a custom water cooling kit or at the very least a top of the range AIO liquid cooler (eg - Corsair H100i). Total rubbish. The FX-9590 does not overheat at all. Even with my Arctic Freezer A30 air cooler (£30!), the FX9590 idles at 40c and load at 68c. My main air cooler is Alpenfohn K2 mount doom. After 1 hour use, idle is 33c. Last night after 1 hour ME3, cpu was 49c. After 30 mins Crysis3, cpu was 56c. Yesterday during daytime (nice, hot weather) cpu was 39c idle. I am using a cooler master storm trooper chassis with 9 high performance (and silent) Coolermaster jet-flo fans.

In Bios, following settings were automatically applied: CPU level up = cancel, CPU ratio = auto, AMD turbo core = auto, CPU/NB frequency = auto, EPU setting = auto, Xtreme tweaking = enabled, Cool n quiet = enabled, C1E = enabled, core C6 state = enabled, HPC mode = enabled, APM = auto. I have not changed any settings other than the RAM frequency from default 1333MHz to the full 2400 MHz (I have 4x4GB Team extreme RAM at 2400MHz).

If you are wondering whether to go for this CPU over the cheaper FX versions then I can say that my experience so far on the processor is very good. Have cranked Battlfield 4 PC video settings to high with excellent frame rates (AHCI SSD / SATA drives config and NVidia 760 GTX graphics card) Windows ratings give it 7.8 out of 7.9 max etc...Intel CPU reviews suggest better speeds for gaming at lower wattage but overall FX-9590 seems to do it for me.
Can confirm no overheating issues with 220w processor using Artic cooling 13 - no problems.

PassMarkCPU ratings place the FX-9590 in the top 25 high-end CPU's out of one hundred or more processor ratings.

Sample Benchmark ratings (Higher is better)
AMD FX-9590 4.70 Ghz = 10,517 rating (£240)
Intel i7-4960X 3.60 Ghz = 14,137 (£881)
Intel i7-3930k 3.20 Ghz = 12,096 (£356)
Intel i7-4770k 3.50 Ghz = 10,143 (£247)

Fantastic processor ! Will run all day @ 5 GHz . You MUST have adequate cooling to run this, water cooling is my recommendation, if you want to get the full potential out of this processor . Arrived on time no fuss.

There Is NOT a chance to cool it with the air. Under load it is heating up very quick, after reaching 60 centidegrees it's freezing the Windows (or generating an blue screen), restart required. I was using quite a big cooler Scythe Orochi with two 14cm fans Aklasa Viper and still wasn't able to cool this processor.
Have switched off 4 cores (that also improved it's temperature tolerance a bit), that helps but what is the point buying 8-core processor when you run it like 4-core. Work well on Asus Sabertooth 990FX.

Finally I've made it work with watercooling system. Used pipes 10/13cm, 280cm x 6cm deep radiator, two 14cm Akasa Viper Fans, EK pump with water tank. Extra 180 GBP for cooling system , think about it before you go for this processor.

Now all is working fine but for the price over 300 GBP. In the warmer days I feel I could choose a better pump, with the better water flow, mine is 400 litres per hour. With a time I will probably replace it with the better one (1500 litres per hour, also EK). Will be necessary if I will add GPU cooling block or chipset cooling block.

The biggest problem with this processor is that low heat tolerance 60 Celcius. If I knew about it before buying I would rather go for AMD FX8350 processor.
