The T-Rex 450 SE V2 is the very pinnacle of small electric helicopters: beautifully engineered with everything metal or carbon fibre, ballraced and, yes, it comes in a small box, has to be put together and it needs radio, 4 servos, a gyro (a good one like the Futaba 401) and LiPo charger. So if you don't know what a gyro, servo or LiPo is this is the WRONG helicopter to be buying.

It is NOT a beginners helicopter as even a half hearted bit of internet research would tell you, I'm amazed that anybody would part with this sort of money and not first research what they are buying. However, if you do know what a gyro, etc is and you understand how to set up pitch ranges (which are also explained in the manual) then it can be put together in a couple of evenings using the supplied manual and if you do get stuck there is copious help on the net. Its flight characteristics are excellent and there is nothing it won't do in the right hands - I've just reached the point of being able to loop mine tail first and inverted!

Model helicopters are going to crash - it is as sure as death and taxes - so assembling it yourself is a great thing as it also means you can reassemble it yourself - you'll soon get fed up with it if you can't!

If you are new to helicopters - or any other sort of radio control flying - then you really do need to seriously consider buying from a proper model shop. All the shops I know will happily help you set a helicopter up correctly if you bought it from them and will point you in the direction of local model flying clubs who will, mostly, be willing to help teach their members for free.

It should never be forgotten that these really are not toys, great fun and challenging as they are they are also about as safe as a loaded pistol in the untrained hands, the first thing any model club will teach you is safety - yours and those around you.

Now the people who moaned about how difficult this is to put together are missing the point. This heli is the most easily repaired heli out there, along with some of the best quality bits I have ever seen. The parts are cheap to replace when you crash (you will crash) but the heli flies like no other.

You will have to note the following. Helis are very difficult to fly, they will require 10 or more hours of simulator time to be able to fly. Most likely if you dont want to end up breaking your new toy 25+hrs!

You will need to buy some very costly radio equipment(up to and beyound £300), gyro tx rx servos ect and spend a long time building this. There are lots of build videos on the net, and you will need to take the built heli to someone who knows helis to do the final setup.

This is the hobby, those without the staying power and wallet need not apply, but should you master the bobbie you will have found something that will have you grinning from ear to ear and that is insanly addictive.

Sure, trex helicopters are meant to be great until you find out you have to screw it all together, for £300 you'd expect it to be at least assembled. Rubbish product details from the seller. Go to your local model shop, who will be really keen to do a £300 sale, I'm sure they will even set it up for you as its a big purchase! Good helicopter, bad value.

Despite the high £300 price, this kit requires construction, down to nuts and bolts level, and was too complex for me. An utter waste of money - don't touch this with a bargepole.
Edit: Okay, I thought I needed to clarify my earlier review. The product is too complex to build, and misses £300 worth of kit (yes, another £300 needed for remote control, gyro etc.!). However, Kev's Racing Bits, and Kevin in particular, were great. I contacted Kevin, and he offered to build the model FOC. So I went to his store near Guildford, and picked up the built model and £300 of extras. If you buy this product, contact Kev first to get the all-in price, and confirm he will build it for you. The product itself is great quality (much better than the Honey Bee King II, for example, which I also have), but all-in costs £600, and you can't build it yourself. It is, however, the best model helicopter available at Amazon...

Useless manual. Only shows bits and bobs of assembly, the rest you have to guess, or ask your supplier, only he does'nt know either.
Kit is incomplete. Vital parts not provided (Battery connections/switch)
Sold as ARTF (Almost ready to fly), somebody must be kidding. Should read BIIYC (Build it if you can).

Overall I think its a prototype that was never completed by the manufacturer.
