I spent a great deal of time upon research for a dual band (2.4ghz and 5ghz) usb WiFi unit, with Linux and Windows compatibility, and a detachable aerial to allow for optional upgrade to those with higher gain and/or directionality. Following reviews from various websites, and those within Amazon.co.uk and Amazon.com itself, the Alfa AWUS051NH V2 appeared to be the best choice, despite being reasonably expensive.
Upon receipt of the unit, when attaching the aerial I found it was not possible to attain a suitably tight fit. The aerial will not stay in any upright position, as it slowly droops towards the horizontal. It is impossible to achieve any directionality to aid signal acquisition due to this fault
The antenna is a standard RP-SMA connection, which screws rotationally onto the main unit. This connection is tight and stable, and not the source of the aforementioned loose fit and drooping of the aerial.
The issue is entirely within the aerial itself, which is able to rotate around the short section at the elbow joint; it is this connection that cannot be made tight, regardless of how much the knurled section is rotated.
Over the course of 15 emails (and counting) with Alfa Networks' support, I was asked on numerous occasions to send pictures of the unit, the aerial, the connecting threads, and so forth, all of which were irrelevant given the detailed description of the problem I'd already provided.
Finally, upon simply asking for a replacement aerial to be sent, I was told "Sorry~~ Please send back to your seller for RMA.". This was later followed with a suggestion to use a spare antenna, as if I have these in abundance just laying around.
I simply will not accept that this is user error, speaking as a person with over 20 years professional experience as a systems administrator and programmer.
Whilst I fully understand that the odd faulty unit can elude the quality control process, I cannot recommend the purchase of this unit, or any Alfa Networks product, given my experience with their support department.

I bought this to go along with my penetrating testing system this worked very well in Kali Linux without any problems install was rather easy just plug the both USB adapters and it works without any needs to download external software for Linux and yes this need 2 extra USB ports to work to it full potential it can however work with one USB plugged in invade you only have spot for one however it will not perform as it should so do expect the slow down,however to round this up this is a very excellent device for Linux as well as windows and it havent failed me yet, I would however advise you if your thinking about cracking WiFi passwords and networks from a distance (with consent to do so) buy a long range antenna (the antenna it comes with work excellent for normal use)
