To start these are not meant for normal listening to music , the AKG240's are meant for mastering in a studio enviroment if you are looking for headphones for just listening look for closed back headphones as these will leak sound they are meant to do that as they are for showing up all the bad parts of track so you can master it.

With that now said if you are looking for refrence headphones then these are proven over years being used as standard in all studios because they are made for the job.

Comftable, detailed sound , replacable lead and look great.

If you are looking for refrence headphones for mastering in this price range buy them they out perform any other in this price range and higher.

Brilliant headphones. If you're doing basic mixing or want to listen to music and hear it "clear", with no boost in bass etc, very good choice. These are not personal headphones - will probably not survive more than a month in your bag in the bus but will work perfectly if you take care of them at home or in the studio. The only issue for me is that they're quite tight fitting - after couple of hours, my ears start aching. Can't go wrong for this amount of money.

Great for studio as a fairly flat unbiased sound.and very comfortable.
not so good playing guitar when I have to bend over to adjust settings on foot peddles as they tend to slip a bit

A quality product with separately replaceable leads for a long term view of ownership. The sound quality is great. The headphones are extremely comfortable and do not pinch the ears or head.

I've used many headphones in the past, including for mixing and the K240s are definitely my favourite.

They have light, responsive low-impedance XXL transducers that deliver accurate, true-to-the-source reproduction of even very quiet signals. With AKG's patented Varimotion diaphragm, XXL transducers produce a flat, neutral frequency response from 15 to 25,000 Hz, revealing every nuance of your music. And because of the semi-open-back design, they provide less bleed and more acoustical isolation than typical high-end reference headphones, making them perfect for everything from tracking in the studio to casual listening to an MP3 player. The included adapter make K240 headphones compatible with standard 1/4" or 1/8" headphone jacks.

They are also lightweight with a springy headband that opens or closes wider for large heads and closes in for smaller ones automatically, without adjustment. A fully detachable, replaceable 10-foot cord means that if you've rolled over your headphone cable one too many times, there's no need to buy a whole new pair of K240s -- you can easily swap out the cable for a third of the price, should you ever need to. But as a studio commodity, K240 headphones are priced so everyone in the band can wear them. Where else can less than £100 buy such an essential critical-listening tool?
