Product Description

Of course 'NC' stands for 'noise cancelling', but it could also stand for 'no contest', because when it comes to pure, undisturbed sound, the AKG K495 NC headphones deliver high-quality performance and active noise control that are second to none.

Durable and easy to charge through the USB, these top-of-the-line headphones create a perfect audio world: you get all the sound you want, and none of the sound you don't.

Avoid using headphones with the volume turned up for an extended period of time. Doing so can damage your hearing. It is advisable to keep the volume at a moderate level at all times. For your own safety, please do not use when driving or cycling.

Being unable to find any retailer with stock of the smaller K490 phones, I purchased the K495. First set of these headphones had to be returned due to intermittent loss of sound in left can. Liked the sound the replacement headphones produced in both NC and non-NC mode. Solid feel and well built. The NC switch on the left can appears to be designed more for visual impact rather than practical use - it was awkward and stiff to use. The switch also rattled a bit, so if you move your head when listening (eg walking) in NC mode, a metallic rattle was produced by the loose fitting switch which I found to be irritating. Not good enough for the price. Returned second set for refund. Will buy the K490 phones when available as the NC switch appears to be more practical.

My most disappointing headphone purchase so far - promised so much, but - I feel there is a blatant design flaw with the left side housing (that holds the electronics / battery for the noise cancellation circuit).. As soon as you put these on your head, you can hear on the left side, the driver diaphragm compressing (you'll hear it as a crunching sound), the first pair I had was broken from the get-go (maybe a previously returned product!?) with a massive channel imbalance / distortion on the bass / distant sounding, got a replacement - and, whilst this sounded a fair bit better, the driver crunching noise was still apparent when putting on the head, and taking off, so - I have returned (ironically, in nearly five years of transactions on Amazon, this is my first refund request)...

...All of this means, even if you get a good set from the get go, odds on, with the driver diaphragn crunching in and out due to the air pressure on the left side, it is pretty much a given that these won't sound good for very long..

Very disappointing from AKG, especially with how good their Q701s are :(

Fantastic premium quality product with sublime sonics - I tried these on along with many other brands in a famous department store in London and I knew I just I had to have them. Amazon had them at a ridiculously low price so that's where I spent my money. Money well spent. Construction is top notch and sound is awesome. Very comfortable and comes with 2 different sized lengths of cable. I have had AKG 'phones before and they do not disappoint - and wipe the floor with other brands that I have used previously - Apple ear buds, Sony, Sennheiser, Creative and Shure. I use these AKGs with my PS3 and iPad as well as my new HTC One.

My headphones just suddenly snapped on the right side and I did some investigation on the internet and these headphones seems to do that a lot. The action required for them to break was just taking them off my head and when looking closely I can see the left side showing signs of wear as well. They have only Ben used while in the office and never dropped or anything like that.

I really liked the sound of them but the build quality is really really bad.

I was blown away with the sound quality of these when they arrived, but soon discovered a very annoying problem which is a "popping" noise in the left can when I'm on the train. It feels like the diaphragm is compressing too much which causes a change in air pressure. This gets worse when the train gets particularly noisy. I returned the first pair, but the replacement pair has the same problem. They're fine when used at home, but not good in noisy environments.

    *UPDATE*

One of the plastic arms that extends from the headband has now cracked. It's not too much of a problem, I pushed that side up into the headband and extended the other side more, (that is until that side cracks as well and they'll become unusable) however, the ring to turn the NC on and off has become loose and developed a VERY annoying rattle. It's put me off buying any more AKG products as these were high end premium headphones that lasted just over a year with casual use. Not impressed!

They sound fantastic but guaranteed to break. I hadn't even used them ten times before the hinge broke. Awful design. Unfortunately it looks like most of the AKG range use the same hinge design, and checking the reviews the hinge snapping is consistent across all of them.

I have used these headphones for six months. The sound quality is in my view excellent. The only downside is the right headphone just snapped this morning when taking the headphones off. It seems, from looking at other reviews, I'm not alone with this experience. It is truly a shame I now have to look for another pair of headphones.

Never dropped it once, yet the plastic part (right below where it says AKG 495 NC) broke after only two months. Just look at the user comments on cnet reviews, clearly a case of bad engineering. Although you can't see it, the plastic part is actually quite thin and prone to wear.
Other than that the sound quality was amazing (not amazed by NC though - maybe my expectations were too high, but I could clearly understand people talking directly to me whith music off / NC on).
