So why did I chose the AKG K545?
With all honesty, this is my first pair of headphones from AKG and I chose it based on its general reputation across the internet - I had expectations but I was not 100% sure how good these were going to be. However, the K545 looks quite modern, and with the detachable cables and in-line mic, these were quite appealing to me as I wanted something that I can use on the go and at the same time use it (with the mic as well) at home with my home computer (I use a handset splitter to plug into my PC).
When I received the headphones, the packaging was somewhat simple - headphone itself, + 6.3mm adaptor + 1 in-line mic for apple iphones + 1 in-line mic for other phones.
The build - seemed solid to me (although a friend of mine said it looks like some what easy to break), and after a whole week of using them, I think it is quite well-built, but I do question how long the headband adjustment clickers are going to last (those at the top). Score 8/10
Sound quality - Obviously using an iPhone 4 as a music source is somewhat weak (despite that, I only listen to Apple losseless format) but I am still saving up to get a better source. When compared with my Custom moulded in ear monitors (built from Shure SE530), the AKG K545 sounds much better. The sounds were accurate, there were more details to the music and the bass was decent quality. However, I think there could be more "body" to the sound (I am not a bass-head). I definitely enjoy listening to these, and I havent found it to be fatiguing to listen to. Score 8.5/10
Comfort - the cushions fit my ears nicely, but this can obviously vary between individuals. Score 8/10
Isolation of sound - Decent as you would expect from a closed-cup headphone, BUT it could definitely be better! (7/10)
Overall I would give it a score of 9/10 (but amazon doesnt allow 1/2 stars), and a slight question mark on whether or not it's worth 210GBP (curr price). The average should be around 8/10 but I added the extra 1 point because I feel that I can get so much use from these headphones (for mobile music AND PC multimedia) The detachable wire (2.5mm end plugs into the headphones and 3.5mm for your input) is a definite plus, but i think they could have used an L junction rather than a straight plug.
TL:DR I do recommend these headphones
They're a good pair of headphones. It ends there
AKG's round ear cups do work well with they're on their larger headphones. But not when they are made smaller like this one.
They don't surround the ear properly,
They look very attractive but are bulky and do not fold down on your shoulders, they only fold up which is kind of a stupid design, and even if they did fold down the metal part would be way too uncomfortable.
when it comes to a pair of headphones they sound really good. they do have the tendency to sound tinny sometimes but overall is good and clean sounding. They have a medium sound stage. They are really good but will not wow you.
For a bit more you can get Philips Fidelio l2 which are perfection and totally worth it.
These are a good sounding headphones.... the fidelios are a beautiful audio experience on a another level.
I do not regret getting these and might have been too harsh. But if these are you're only pair i recommend you look around out more.
