I wanted to site my router at some distance from the BT telephone master socket (I have a copper-to-exchange internet connection). The accepted wisdom seems to be that this is a bad idea - the router should be as close as possible to the master socket. I was a bit skeptical as there is nothing very special about the BT phone lines which connect properties to the exchange - many were installed before the days of broadband internet and are still in use - so I thought I'd give it a try.
Before replacing the 0.5m cable between socket and router with this 10m one my download speed was around 73 Mb/s. After replacing it's still around 73 Mb/s. There is no significant difference.
I'm obviously happy with the purchase - it's allowed me to move the router to a spot which gives whole-house coverage without having to resort to an extender or repeater.
