Long live charlie O:-)
They are presented as vinyl replica sleeves which I love. I hate those horrible plastic jewel cases, abominations. Cheap as chips obviously, but who can afford those lovely japanese ones with proper spines? Not me anyway.
If you're a youngster and you love punk, give this set a go and you'll love it even more.
'ANOTHER KIND OF BLUES' (1979)
The debut album was a 17 track value-for-money release, produced by John McCoy from 'Gillan'. It contains re-recorded versions of 'C.I.D.', 'I Live In A Car', 'B1C', 'Stranglehold', 'World War', & 'Rockers'. The repetitive punk singalong 'Stranglehold' & 'Tomorrows Girls' were hit singles in 1979. 'Another Kind Of Blues' is a strong collection.
The late Frank Zappa expressed a liking for 'I Live In A Car' in a TV interview. 'TV Blues' makes the point that you can be imprisoned for "Watching your own TV" (without a license). 'All I Want To Know' could easily have had a more offensive title.
'BRAND NEW AGE' (1980)
The first UK Subs album I ever bought. I got the vinyl LP in 1980 on the strength of the hit single 'Warhead'. I remember an appalled (elderly) work colleague reading the chorus aloud: "war-head, war-head, war-head, war-head, war-head........" from a music paper. 'Teenage' was also a hit single in 1980.
The title song 'Brand New Age' accurately predicted the rise of CCTV cameras back in 1980- "is the future gonna be a nightmare, everywhere you go they're always there". In 'Organised Crime' Charlie protests about 'Government Officials'. 'Public Servant' has a similar theme. 'Barbie's Dead' has a short, dynamic guitar solo.Read more ›

Four albums a must for any old punk out there brilliant well worth the money
Pure punk rock that picks up where the Stones left off. A great mix earthy working class punk and blues, only Nicky Garrett can make a Gibson SG sound as raw as recorded on these... Read morePublished 23 months ago by Nick
